So i have finally got my boat put back together after a total restore and went to crank the engine over and NOTHING. I could move the red hot wire that runs from the switch to the fuse block around and eventually it would turn over. I removed the wire and ran a new one and still nothing to the starter. The bilge pump and lights, blower, and horn all work put no power to the starter. I am confused!! please help! Also quick note i can cross the solenoid and boat will fire...this makes no since to me.

Is it a new selenoid?

yes borge-werner i replaced it and the boat worked fine before winter and has worked fine this year with drive-way starts. It started messing up last night it has to be something to do with that wire

Check the main battery wires. If they are old/ corroded in any way, you may have enough power running through them to power the small voltage pulling items, but not enough to start it up.

On second thought it will work every now and then but now it doesnt work at all. Would old cables cause this?

Possibly your ignition switch is worn?

I would definitely say it's an ignition switch or your "red hot wire" since if you jump the solenoid it cranks. That eliminates your battery cables. You're not closing the relay in the solenoid.

that is what i was thinking i am going to try a new switch and new wire and see what happens

Could be the solenoid, but since you say it works intermittently, and is new I wouldn't think that's it, but could be. Even new, they don't ALWAYS work.

yea i ran into that problem with Advance Auto Parts solenoids but the only thing that confuses me is that it worked about 10 min before that and will work when crossing it over.

jump your red hot wire to the battery and see what happens
