I just replaced the plugs and changed the oil in my '98 PS 205. The boat ran great on its first voyage of the season but the oil pressure seemed high. I think in the past running at 3000 rpm's oil psi was around 40. Now it is running around 60 psi at 3000 rpm. Any thoughts please?

Thanks

60 PSI is good............As the engine heats up the Oil Pressure will drop a little...............:D

When was the last time you changed your oil? It's possible that your old oil filter was clogged and went into by-pass mode and not filtering the oil. This would cause your oil pressure to drop.

It's been a couple of years but everything seemed to run great last year it was just time to change the oil.

Thanks

Oil pressure varies according to many things, but one of them, IMHO, is the oil filter.

When my boat was new, it had a Pennzoil PZ-3 filter on it, oil pressure ran about 40 at WOT. First oil change, dealer put on some other brand (Mercruiser, IIRC) and the pressure was running about 60. Next oil change, I put on a Wix 51069 and now the pressure runs around 80.

I have a Mobil One filter on mine and it runs around there as well.

Unfortunately being in Wisconsin and only being able to ski on weekends really limits the hours I put on my boat to around 25 or 30 per summer. My PS205 is 10 years old now and only has 280 hours on it. I usually change the oil at the beginning of each season but I don't think I did last year. OOps! Thanks to all for the good information.

Manley59- You don't want old oil sitting in a motor for that long. It's corrosive and can pit the surfaces it's in contact with. It's a lot cheaper to change the oil than have a major problem.

Speaking of oil pressure, does anyone know what the proper ohm range is for the oil pressure sender on a 351W Ford?

My oil pressure gauge pegs off the chart (> 80). I replaced the sender with a new one from Skidim but still get the same thing. I'm thinking maybe the gauge is bad but want to make sure.

So anyone know what the proper range the sender should put out and/or the proper range the gauge expects?
