Ok new to me LT-1,powerslot,Hurth 1.52:1.
everything working fine.
changed the tranny fluid and cleaned the filter this spring.Boat operates fine ,However in reverse along with the normal and expected whine the tranny sounds like there is marbles in there.I have done a search but no luck finding any similar type posts. Can someone make an educuated guess as where or what might be happening? The new fluid was the recomended ATF in the Hurth owners manual. boat is a 1998 PS 190.
thanks in advance

Could be your damper plate. How many hours on the boat?

I agree that the damper plate should be looked at, but IIUC the reason Indmar started recommending 15W40 instead of ATF in the Hurth gear-reduction transmissions in 2003 was because of transmission rattling at idle speeds.

Not sayin' you should switch to 15W40, but my understanding is that that rattling was a cosmetic issue, not a "impending damage" issue.

the boat has less than 80 hours on it.
Maybe the oil would fix the problem.Dont know how to check the damper plate. The boat does operate very well, would the damper plate cause abnormal operation or just the rattling sound????
there is no dealer close by so hoping for a bid of confidance to use the boat.
thanks again in advance

I don't know the answer to your question but here are some folks I would ask to find out...

Chuck at BAW's 813.996.2297
Larry at Indmar - lengelbert@indmar.com
Or Steve at Indmar - stevew@indmar.com

All have been very helpful to me in the past figuring out questions I have had regarding my 98 LT-1
