Which model boat/engine do you have? Sounds like a you have an electrical problem in your solenoid or your starter. The good news that both of those items are relatively inexpensive to replace. Again, give us more specific info on your setup and you will get better info.

sorry i didn't put in enough info.... 2000 xstar 330 hp..... thanks for the reply
Check the condition of the battery. I don't mean check the voltage, have it load tested. If it's more than a few years old, it may not have much longer to live.
If it went dead on more than one occasion, it lost about 35% of its capacity each time. Never keep cranking until a battery is totally dead. Do that and kiss your starter and solenoid goodbye.

This sounds too simple, but the basics are where this problem almost always lies. If you have cleaned, not just checked all battery connections including the ground at the block, your sloenoid needs to be replaced. For cleaning battery cable ends, a stainless wire brush does a quick and effective job.

I had this happed to my prostar 190 early this season, wouldn't start up, i replaced the battery (didn't fix), then i thought starter and thats what it was, i had mine rebuilt for about 250, if you are going to get a new one make sure its marine, you dont want sparks in the engine compartment.

Guys -
Thanks much for your thoughts - the battery is new, connections are good, when I turn the key, the annoyingly loud buzzer sounds and continues to sound while I try to start. When I turn the key, it only clicks once and nothing else (except for the really annoying buzzer). If I try it repeatedly, it eventually starts (fingers crossed that it continues to do so).
I suspect it is the solenoid or starter - is there any way to know which one?
BTW - boat is 2000 Maristar 230 w/ Indmar LTR 330 hp Northstar Ignition
I really appreciate your thoughts.
