Help, I found my Xstar had leaked transmission oil over the winter.

I gave it too a boat mechanic to look at and he could find nothing wrong. He felt it could have been down to the way the boat had been stored over the winter.

I just don't buy it so can anyone recommend further checks I can do or have any experience of this?

The usual source of leak would be the transmission seals. I can't think how one would store a boat to cause that leaking from those, assuming you didn't store it vertically or something. Did you change the transmission oil before you stored it for the winter? It could be problematic if there was a lot of water in the transmission when you stored it and it froze over the winter.

I guess my approach would be to refill it, let it sit a day or two and look for more oil in the bilge. If there was none, I'd put it in the water, see of more leaks occur, checking the fluid carefully and frequently making sure the level is OK and that there's no water accumulating in the tranny.
