Joe Peroceschi, of Muskego, Wis., is thrown from his boat, Smokin Joe, after losing control on a windy course at the Budweiser Drag Boat Nationals held at Wappapello Lake in Southeast Missouri Sunday, May 18, 2008. Chuck Norris wouldn't have needed a boat, he'd have won the race too.

He can walk on water!

I saw a video of the crash and it is not pretty! I don't understand why they don't make non-capsuled boats illegal for sanctioned races... blow overs are too common.

too common.

I can't wrap my head around why anyone would participate in this sport. They seem to crash all the time.

ok this is exactly why 23.7 mph is plenty fast for me... (i know 23.7 is pushing it but i have to bump it up from 23.0 when i go out to the 80 ft line...)

I may be just guessing here, but a SHATTERED pelvis sounds like it hurts......BAD.

Not to mention that it can kill you.

How? Can it puncture your intestines or your bladder? (guessing)

There is a lot of vasculature around the pelvis. Rupture any vessel in there and you can loose up to 4 litres (80%) of your blood into the pelvic space. (Very hard to control internal bleeding and there is a lot of room to bleed.)

There are a lot of veins coming out of the bone as the bone is where your blood (and blood products) comes from.

In fact in emergency situations I can gain vascular access by drilling a big needle into either your sternum, your tibia, or your pelvis.

I think last year on Lake Murray, in SC, two people were thrown from a similar type boat. One of the passengers was a 19 year old girl. It took about 5 days for the bodies to surface. It was the most stupid accident I have ever seen. This older guy was showing off with his boat and this young girl was killed because of it.
