View Full Version : Need help repairing ballast system

We took our 2004 X10 out for the first time this season and learned that both the center and port ballast tanks are busted. I'm not sure about the port tank, but the center tank is full and won't empty. To make it worse, it was probably full all winter and could have frozen.

The circuit breakers are not tripped. The pumps make a humming sound when they are activated, but provide no pumping action.

I've never dealt with these systems before, so would appreciate a primer in how they work and how I can start troubleshooting. First question: where are the pumps?

Get the NEW yellow impellars

I have a X30 and my impeller pumps are in the engine compartment mounted on the back transom. I would suspect the same area. There should be one mounted in a different direction. Also, when you take the three bolts out to check the impeller on the pump do not over tighten them when you put them back, they will break.

Okay, here's an update. Found the pumps (wish I was younger and more flexible). So far I've removed two of them. The impeller on the pump for the center tank was completely shot. The port impeller actually looked okay. What's the deal on the new yellow impellers? Was there a Mastercraft recall.

The yellow are just better, they don't seem as rigid so I guess they resist getting rock hard like the rubber ones.
