I want to replace the packing and I can't remove the nut. with the shaft slid alll the way back, there stillisn't roomto remove the nut that hold the couple on. Am I missing something? How so you remove the packing nut?

I wouldn't think you should have to take the coupling off to replace the packing. Try unscrewing the packing gland nut and sliding forward on the shaft. There should be enough space between the nut and the shaft log to remove the old packing and put in new.

Good idea, but it can't be that hard to remove, is it? I also have asn alignment issue, so I would like to remove the shaft to check it out.

I purchased a special socket nut from Skidim which fits and has 2 flat sides so it can be turned with an open ended wrench. There is usually less room on the Powerslot boats and that is what I did on my 93 Prostar with Powerslot.

Check out their site their part # is 2217 or 2216 (probably 2217 based on your picture.

Hope this helps.

If you are also trying to do an alignment then you would want to keep the coupling on for that as well. However to give you the answer to your question if you want to remove the shaft get a socket with wrench flats to remove the coupling nut and then the coupling slides off the shaft.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. Do you know what size socket? Is it the same as the prop nut? It is a power slot with an 1 1/8 shaft.
