I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to hook up an ipod on the back of a clarion radio in a 2003 197.

2003 is a little 'old' when it comes to things Ipod - however, you could sure check here (http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Group/ProductMenu.aspx?g=305250&search=ipod+adapter&tp=120)to see if there is an adapter available. I had an older stereo which had a place to plug in a multi-disc CD player, but it was just too old to work with an Ipod adapter.

There is plenty of info in this thread (http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=14344&highlight=ipod). Let me know if you have any questions.

I just added that RCA adapter to my '05 Clarion (that looks just like yours) Look for the AUX RCA plugs at the back of unit, red and white ones. Select "AUX" on your head unit and your I-POD should play through the speakers. Mine sounds great!

You should be able to crawl under the observer seat on your back and get to the wiring on the stereo without pulling it out. I could on my '05 197. And it is as simple as plugging in the 2 RCA's as others have said.

If your model is the same as mine, XMD1, then you will have to make an adapter to use the ipod because there are no input jacks, just output for the optional disc changer. I made one from about $5 worth of parts from a discussion I found on the Planet Natique site

This picture shows half of the schematic, but basically you just solder some rca jacks to the multipin connector and wire it up. Works great. The problem I think you will find with the XMD1 if trying to use cables sold as iPod adapters, is that this unit needs 12v across pins 5 and 9 to switch it to AUX input mode. You may be able to use one of the cables and modify it to do this and save yourself some soldering headaches with the small pins.
