Just got back from our first ski nite of the season....Fantastic!
I can't remember skiing this early here in Ontario, Canada. The ice just went out last Friday.
Lake was glass, not another sole in sight, unreal. The air was low sixties and the water, well.....better that i didn't check.
Actually it really wasn't bad at all with a full length suit. I didn't even break out the old drysuit. A week of really warm weather has made a huge difference.
Had a pretty da_n good run too! I will pay for it tomorrow though. Forearms, shoulders, biceps...better get some Ibuprofen in me quick.
Any other Canadians or northern skiers been in yet?
:D

two weeks ago it was looking like we were gonna get out fairly soon... then we went into the tank for this week :(

May 10th will be the first for me. Too many things to get done in the city before we start the dedicated weekly weekend migration to the cottage.

I heard the ice is out, and that there is lots of water this year.

I've been skiing since the beginning of March. I've been out about 7 times on the Fraser River. The weather in Vancouver has been inconsistent. I actually got a wicked sunburn last time and was cooking in my drysuit. It has snowed since then.

The lake is still half full with ice. Probably a few more days for it to finally sink. We had record snow falls this winter and the season is a week or two behind despite the nice weather.
The main road in front of my cottage has been closed for 4 days now as there is over 3 feet of water over it two houses down from me. My house is safe but many of my neighbours are flooded. The lake is totally overfilled because of an ice bank blocking the only exit river. 3 other lakes are filling the lake in but nothing is coming out:eek3:
I am not even sure I will be able to ski the week-end of May 3rd as the exceptionally high waterlevels is bringing all kind of floating debris in the lake. It will take many days to come back down and clean up the floating hazards. Too dangerous for now...
Better be safe now than get hurt or damage the boat hitting a log.
What is a few more days....:(

Went out for a quick pull last weekend, still pumped from skiing at Skitek in Florida last month.
Another month before the course goes in though, still try to be the first on in the spring. Lots to do on the boat first before she stays in.

I recently saw a pic of a couple of canadian clowns floating on a huge chunk of ice. They were in their summer gear. I think it was a PSA in search of some mentally challenged boys lost from a Michigan home in the 80's.

It wasn't really skiing but it made me thankful for what I have.....

Might have to runout to the lake today to see if all the ice has melted yet. Not too sure. Evenin the dead of summer she is a cold SOB. I don't think that we are going to get the huge flooding we normally get in spring so we shouldn't have to be worried too much about the logs at least.

Anyone else been out to Ghost Dam?
I might take a drive down to Travers Dam Thursday.

Kyle bring that slalom course down and we"ll take you out!
Ski nite was a bit on the chilly side last night but the lake was like glass. After falling i got an ice cream headache at 34mph. But really not that bad, you get used to it pretty quick. Now is the time that you notice the heaters and showers are essential.

The funny part was even though it was warm and sunny (air = 21 degrees C) when you were in the water you could see your breath (water ~5 degrees C). :(

We took our first run of the season on sat. 17th. It was also our first run with our new boat. We recently upgraded from a 1990 prostar 190 to a 2000 prostar 205v. Need more room with the family growing. Water was really cold but the air temp was warm (29 c.) I did one wakeboard, surf and a ski. The new boat doesn't have a heater or hot water shower which is the only thing i miss from our old boat. In time we will add both to the new boat. Great to see and hear from all the other canadians making it happen even though the weather isn't the best yet. The only downfall for the day was we forgot the camera. I guess we will have pictures from the second day.

Little Bow, Pine Coulee and Chestermere are our regulars. My parents also have a cabin on Elkwater Lake down in Cypress hill prov. park. I live in south Calgary and its easier to head south than north for our boating. I will work on updating my profile. What lakes are you on thijs?

Probably shouldn't, but I always put the life jacket under the dry suit. Plus if you put some air in the dry suit, you won't have any problems floating. Looking like the michelin man!

ALBERTASKIER

I probably should but I don't wear a life jacket under or over my dry suite. The air that is held inside the suite keeps me a float.

WE usually head out to Ghost Dam as my parents are in Cochrane and I am in NW Calgary.

Do you mean Little Bow Lake or Little Bow Resort on Travers Reservoir? We used to always head out to the east end of Travers reservoir......Always clean, no floating crap, usually not too busy, pretty warm and the most spectacular storms ever. See my pic's. Should try to get a Calgary Mastercraft outting organized?

We have been on the water for about a month now and i think the water finally broke 60 degrees! It has been a chilly spring that's for sure. Putting in the slalom course on the May long weekend was not fun. At the end of the day though, this is the best start to a season yet!
