This summer I have access to a boat lift. The lift is adjustable so the beams (cradle) the boat actually rests on can be moved to work with large and small boats. My boat is a 1990 Maristar 210, does anyone know how far apart the beams should be?

It would probably be best to position them right under the stringers or at least close to them.

Do you have a trailer? Wouldn't it be best to put the lift bunks the same distance apart as the trailer bunks?

Another vote for measuring the trailer bunks and setting those on the lift to match. As far as up and down (front to back) adjustment, use the water level as a guide so the boat sits level when cranked up.

I have adjusted my lift for several different boats. Measure the distance from stringer to stringer at the stern and also at the mid point and at the front adjust stringers to those dimentions and usually the front V on the lift to support the bow, also the guides at the rear of the lift. Lift the boat & see how it sits and readjust if necessary.

OK, sorry to sound stupid, BUT "What are stringers?"

The ones you are concerned about are the main supports that run the length of the boat.

I just installed a boat lift and I set it up just like the runners on my trailer.

stringers are the main supports for the hull inside the boat. The trailer bunks are set up to support the stringers, so see where they are under the boat and adjust the lift accordingly. If all else fails hire a professional!!
