Well, the cat got out of the bag before the project was finished...we still have some engine and prop work to do but, here she is. This is my idea of a "tuner" 197. It started life as a 2008 TT197. We added the custom graphics, polished stainless running gear (prop is still under development), engine work, and bottom work. JL is helping with stereo as well...like I said it is not done yet...maybe by CSM. I can't say how all this will play out, but think Callaway, Roush etc and you get the idea. The boat still runs both Stargazer and Zero Off.

Let me know what you think...

I like the boat.. I assume that is a wrap?

MYMC
04-23-2008, 09:57 AM
It is a custom version of a wrap they make for MC...I do not know what it will sell to the public for yet...like I said this got out before I was done. If this project moves forward we will want something that is exclusive to our "tuned" boats, but this is a real good start.

Looks great except for the snaps on the rail! Can't those be put under the rub rail so they aren't seen or felt(sliding over the side)?

Are you 'tuning' X boats to?

Good idea, and we'll look into it for the future.

Yes, we will be doing an "X-Boat" version...I have been working on Maeghan's boat and have found some cool ideas...

There are some very specific targets in mind; however, I am keeping them close to the vest at this point...no need to disappoint or be unrealistic. Do I believe 50 is possible...yes.

The bottom mods are simple but propritary...for the project to work and be something people would want to buy I need to keep some things as a trade secret for now. If this doesnt work out, then I'll be more than happy to spill it all.

Jim@BAWS
04-23-2008, 11:19 AM
Mike...the trade secret is already out.

Mike is going to WAX the bottom of the boat and run it down hill
He will probably get 70 MPH + that way

Sorry to let the cat out of the bag. I know that has never been tried before.

I remember the story of the Dutch folks. The had planned on going to the Sun in a Rocket ship. When asked how they where planning on doing that. They said "Where going at night"

Looks AWESOME

Mike I applaud you for your innovation and thinking outside of the box. The 197, while a nice boat, has been the same boat essentially since 2002. I think it's pretty cool you are trying to mix things up a bit with this model. 50+ with an MCX will certainly pique the interest of the footin crowd. Keep us tuned in and best wishes on this venture!

Thanks, and thank you to everyone for the feedback. Keep it coming, let me know what you would like to see in package like this. Keep in mind this would be a "tuner" version, and as such the price will be driven by the performance/expectations.

I think there is a place for it as long as you don't start putting Jegs stickers on it. 8p That of course has it's market but you'd need to paint the boat John Deere Green at that point. 8p 8p

THREADJACK. I had to deal with more teens than I wanted to this past week due to prom weekend, but one of the young bass fishermen types told me after he saw my "nice boat" in my garage, " man one of these guys my uncle knows just bought a fifty thousand dollar boat that won't go any faster than 42mph... that's just stupid man!". I said, "hey junior, how fast you think that nice boat there will go? Looks purdy fast don't it? I mean it's got a 350hp motor.. more than twice your bass boat has... whatcha think?"

That is one mean looking machine Mike! The first thing I noticed that distracted me from the beauty was the gawdawful tower. But I guess me and uawaterksier are in the minority. If I was buying, that tower would have to go.

Like a luggage rack on a Ferrari. Like wing and belly tanks on a P51... ;) (sorry, that's the best P51 analogy I could come up with)

Mike,

Have you thought of putting those towers speakers onto the two middle mounts?? When we rigged our 197 with mini tower at the shop, we did it that way cause with that tower and the DD, you have to crawl to get through, but putting them over the drive gives a little more walkway room. Just a thought, if you're putting four speakers on there it doesn't really matter!!

WOW, VERY NICE ! The wife likes it, I'm looking for my checkbook right now.... Drop dead gorgeous, stop all traffic boat.

Seriously though... other ideas:

1) A real supportive drivers seat
2) Ipod dock and remote of some flavor
3) Black powdercoating on the tower. I think if you're putting a tower on a boat, it ought to match the hardware it's closest to - windshield frame. It also subdues the jungle gym look a little bit.

uawaterskier
04-23-2008, 10:30 PM
agreed, with an all black tower it would look a lot better

JohnE
04-23-2008, 11:09 PM
I think a black tower would make it look cheap. The aluminum tower complements the SS rubrail. I've seen black towers and they don't look good to me. The "no monkeybar" argument has a little more merit, IMO.

It is for sale, the engine has been returned to a normal state of tune. Let's just say that the idea of a tuner boat went over like a "Led Zeppelin" with MC...

If anyone would like to have it, I'm done with it. Total hours on boat is 7.0 at this time. It is 2008 TT #58 out of 100...and BTW, the Zero Off gauge showed up for it last week.

Seems like something like this would be a cool idea. Kind of like a corvette coming off a showroom floor, to be tuned and dialed in. Guess I look at it differently, but boats are modified and tweaked all the time. Why such an issue?

Warranty policy is determined by MasterCraft and enforced by their dealer network...someone in that chain would have to know and decide it was detrimental to the boat. (feel free to read between the lines)

Thanks Mike, but we've used these since 1993 and contrary to current beliefs by some from lies told by others, there never has been any dirt/sand/debris underneath the rugs nor will there ever be as long as we own this boat.
That is, unless something was done to sabotage our boat while we were at lunch before the judges were trying to do their jobs. Nor is there one single tear/cut in the upholstery on the boat or van that had to be covered over with a towel to prevent viewing. Anytime anyone wants to come inspect it, we welcome it!

I see at least 3 grains of sand under those mats. Jim and I will be up shortly to inspect the dirty carpets and warn out seats. Once the inspection is complete, we will investigate the underside of the van to ensure that the muffler bearings are properly lubed and the belts have been given their appropriate coating of armor-all. Better get busy. I have to be up there and back to SoCal for a meeting at 4pm. 8p

Why do you even let this BS get to you!?!? Do I need to give you the first grade pep talk, like my gf gives her kids?? "Do not show them that it bothers you." "They are only pestering you because they know it bothers you." "They are only bothering you because they are jealous"

The only time that I have ever seen Harold's boat dirty is the time that he was caught in that horrible storm on lake lanier. I believe that was 2003.

You are forgive this time. Next time, maybe not.

Are they doing snap in carpet in the 190/197's, too?

No Mike, that wasn't about you.
You can be assured that if we would ever buy a new boat, you would be my first and only stop!

Not yet...key word being yet. It is not practical to do it with the boat configured like the current offering. There is another boat company out there that did it that way this year and after viewing the results first hand over the weekend I'm glad we chose to wait until the "new" boat is released.

Harold...thank you. Given your knowledge, loyalty, support and real love of the product I do not believe a dealer could receive a stronger recommendation/seal of approval! We'll keep trying to do our best to earn it.

So is this a change that will be happening in this model year or the future?

Future...2010 boat is the same as 2009 with the prerequisite minor changes.

What are the prerequisite minor changes, other than the gauges/dash panel?
