The hardest part for me leaving Cali is the beach and surfing, this is the only way I can check the waves now http://wavewatch.com/Live-Surf-Cams.php and when it's going off I get real home sick. I use to go back twice a month but the gas these days is killer  Everytime I get the surf urge I have my kids yank me around on my wakeboard or wake surf but it just ain't the same. This is a nothing thread just me feeling sad I can't surf as much anymore  Looks like Long Island & New Jersey are going off today :D

6'2 Yikes! Man I use to have the stamina to paddle a small board like that, but now I'd be beat just getting to the outside and wouldn't have the strength to catch any waves on a board like that. You're right getting older is a Bi%CH !

Not missing much today, Coz! Huntington Pier was horrible and the Cliffs were non-existant... not even longboard-able. Bolsa was all the same. I took the longboard out in Surfside on Monday morning... nothing too wonderful, but there is just something about getting wet before work, that makes work SO much more tolerable!

I know you bag on the OC and Cali alot, but there is no way in HELL I could move away from this! My morning drive down PCH keeps me sane and my evening bike rides down Main Street and down the board walk in Seal always make me remember just how nice it is here!

I am glad to hear there are fellow Californians here on the board. I only know of one other, who actually lives two blocks away. We should try to plan a West Coast TMC event of some kind.

I "grew up" in San Jose but I'm in Ventura now.

I'm with ya sodar, I love everything west of PCH :D Don't get me wrong I love AZ and the beach & surfing is the ONLY! thing I miss about cali. About surfing before work, I'm a self employed contractor so that's how I based my mornings, surf or work first? depended on the swell direction, and every saturday & sunday mornings was straight down the 55 fwy to Newport pier or the jetties and in the water at 6:30 am for as long as I can remember and hang with the boyz at blackies. That's what I'm missing

As I sit here and write this I'm also planning my next trip for a quick surf so I'd like to give you guys a hollar when I'm in town and we could hook up for an early am session. I have a wakeboard thing this weekend so I'm looking in a couple weeks. Now I'm really jones'n! :D

I've been a member of surfline for years and it's a great detailed site but it costs to see the long streams (they have short free streams) and wavewatch is free, so I check the charts at SL and check the waves at WW :D Where you at Ryan? and where you from?

I grew up with Shaun Colins' (the guy that started Surfline) son. The Colin's family has a little goldmine going and have built themselves a sweet house on Ocean Ave. in Seal Beach.

When Surfline started out, it used to be free for everything.. even before computers were around, it was a free call-in service!

Fred's is damn tough to beat too! Taco Tuesday has become a stample for my GF and I! Big Tecate in a paper bag and some fish tacos, watching the sunset! Can't beat it!

Now, stepping away from the mainstream surf towns. Anyone ever had Seal Beach's finest breakfast burritos at Nick's Deli!?!?!? Growing up during summer, I cannot remember a morning that I did not eat one on my way down to Junior Guards! GOOD TIMES!

sodar! you were a junior lifeguard? me too :D Hermosa Beach in the 70's :D

BTW: I like SB and when the direction is right that place can pump. And since your on tacos you need to try Tacos San Pedro in Hawaiian Gardens on Katella and the 605 fwy. I know it's off the beat'n path but once you try them you'll always go back. I found them years ago and would make the drive just for a taco or anything from there, truly authentc. Try it and get back to me. Right accross from the casino.

SB during cloudbreak is pretty cool too! I will have to post some pics I took when the oil island was breaking. Surfer Mag had a few guys out there photographing a bunch of tow-ins...

My office is at Katella and the 605. You must be thinking of Carson and the 605... that is Hawaiian Gardens.

My bad! yes it is Carson, go try it, if your going from the 605 south on carson it's right after taco bell if I remember right. The owner started out as a roach coach then got enough money to rent a little space where he's at now and as time went by he now owns the whole little 2 shop building. The lines out the door get very long so go at off times and don't go on sundays because that's menudo day and it's the cure place for all the drunks on that day it's a small place and it gets packed.

I grew up in So. Cal born in SFV and went to grade school in Corona. Been up north for a while and in San Francisco area since 1996. Lived in San Mateo for the past year and now have a garage! I lived out on Geary Blvd. without a garage for about 6yrs and when I brought the boat home, I would have to pay a $40. street cleaning parking ticket every week to have it in front of the house:(. The thing is, I was able to justify it because to rent an uncovered "parking space" somewhere off the street would have cost me $250. per month and I can pay the city in installments! I would gladly attend a West Coast TMC event! Rick

That viny fence kept me vertical on many occasions. Nice hand rail/balancer

Also there use to be horses on it when I first moved there but those disappeared when S&S started building all the tracts. My boys use to tear it up on their gopeds though.

Yep! my kids were in this little goped gang that would zip around YL getting the neighbors mad and the cops started cracking down too  Nothing louder than about 6 tricked out gopeds flying by your house or riding in your hood. ...Anyone ever had Seal Beach's finest breakfast burritos at Nick's Deli!?!?!? ...

Are Nick's better than from El Burrito Jr? I admit I like Pina Bang and El Burrito Jr is the only joint that has it and good tacos.

You know, the hundreds of times I drove by I never tried Fred's or Taco Surf for that matter. Maybe I'll hit that up on my next trip. I haven't found a decent taco place here in Columbus yet. But we do have a Baja Fresh now.

Sodar

El Burrito is and will always be my favorite Mexican Joint.... EVER! Ask ANYONE I have ever taken out on a first date. They normally consists of a bike ride down the beach and over to the marina, a little food at El Burrito and a night out at the Main Street dive bars (Clancy's & Irisher)!

With that said, the best BREAKFAST burritos are at Nick's. El Burrito does not have breakfast and Nick's does not have burritos for anything other than breakfast. Actually, the cook at Nick's also works at El Burrito in the evenings.
