I am trying to decide whether or not to have my window tinted on my 2006 X-15. What is everyone's thoughts on doing it at all, and how dark should I go if I do it?

30-35% is good any darker and its hard to see through with sunglasses on and the sun high and bright.

I am gettin mine done Thursday. decided to go 5 %. I don't use the window to look through :) I may wish I had not gone that dark, but too late to go back now.

Good thing you don't use the windshield to look through because with that 5% you might as well have just painted it black. trust me I know. My truck is done 5% all around and it is hard to see out of especially in any low light conditions. That is having the sun only coming from one side of the tint. Having the sun on both sides of the windshield you will not be able to see a thing.

If you use your boat after the sun goes down like us I wouldn't, also when water (and when it dries and spots) gets on the tinted window it's harder to see through than the clear.

Not for me. But who cares what I think? You're right about about at night, it does make it difficult to see. A buddy has his AS done.

Post a pic when you get it back, and let us know how you like it. I am thinking of going very dark also.

I thought about it but I HATE water spots and could see them showing up really bad on the tint. but post pictures for sure, I bet it looks great if you can keep it spot free.

I think that aesthetically it looks awesome, but I had 25% on my boat, and it lasted about a week. I ripped it off about as fast as I put it on. I hated it.....all of the issues listed above are true.

It may be a bigger issue on slalom boats, because we really need to see well to run a perfectly straight line, and we aren't quite as concerned with BLING!

If you want a "show boat" go for it. But personally, if style has an adverse impact on functionality, forget it. I bought a ski boat. The fact that it looks cool (without the tint) is just an added bonus. :twocents:

i was considering hardcore... i was thinking it woud get annoying to see through in late evening... like you said the first time i heard a stick hit the hull in low light conditions i'm thinking i would stop and rip it off then and there... never put it on... i bet it would look sweet though

We have quite a few boats with tint, all with about 20% tint level.

The guy who does out tint is actually doing a 40th X-Star right now:)

well it may still be too dark for some, but decided to go with 20% instead of 5% and will be done Friday. I will post pictures of it after it is finished.

I'd like to see some pictures of the 40th if you have a chance. I think it would look good especially since the lower hull and back are both black... it would tie the whole boat together by bringing the black up to the windshield as well.

That being said, I would also be concerned about the water spots... it would have to look very nice if I were to ad this to my 40th.

no doubt, it looks great, but I'm willing to bet you don't like it, unless bling is all you care about.....but anyway, great looking boat.

Looks great. I would be interested in how much $$ as well. My first quote to get my done was $350. I thought that was way to high.

A very close friend done it for me.... He said he prices them (with the curved glass) 300.00 He said that will usually send them away and he doesn't mind, because it is a pain to do. He said if anyone I knew wanted it done it would be 250.00 luckily he is a childhood friend of mine that he has known me all my life.
