How about Southwestern lower? My summer place is in Sister Lakes - about 20 miles east of St. Joe/Benton Harbor. I service my boat at Action Water Sports - great people to do business with....

Wow I did not expect so many replies from Michigan. That is great !!
I just got mine from Action Water Sports. I bought it at the boat show this year after some persuading from myself, the Action Salesman and a wee bit of alcohol she; (the wife) caved. Have owned others like Whaler, pontoons and jet ski's over the years.

Water location: Thornapple River in Cascade (outside Grand Rapids)

See you guys on the water!!!!

Thanks Steve

Yes - my summer home about 1 mile from Midway. What do you want to know??

Have you had good luck with the parts/ service dept? Would you recommend them?

wiltok
04-05-2005, 12:51 PM
Yes - the guy who runs service is named Jimmy and he is a great guy. Although I have not serviced my MC there - he has serviced my Donzi. He is honest, straight shooter who seems to really care about fixing boats.

Midway is a little different than many dealerships - the dealership and the service dept are two separate groups. The dealership just came under new ownership - the owners name is Randy and so far I am impressed with him. I am in the process of buying a pier and he has been bending over backward to help me.

Like I mentioned, I have a place right there - if you are dropping your boat off let me know. I have an X-9 right on the lake...

We ski on Big Platte lake in Benzie County. We have access to Long Lake (the one in Benzie) but don't know if it's skiable. Any help for the area? Any courses up there?

wiltok
04-12-2005, 01:27 PM
94PS190,

I used to go to BT's quite often - but as I get older (and have a sig other) I am staying away from bars. Next time in the area - go to Zeke's in Dowagiac - good food, over 300 beers, inexpensive!

Hey fellow Michiganders - when are you de-winterizing your boats? I don't want to risk a block cracking but am itching to start skiing.

brady1022
04-12-2005, 05:18 PM
I know the feeling, I'm thinkin around the end of this month or early may, however I'm a bit further south than dowagiac in Grand Rapids so might be a little less risky. I know a few guys who have already been on the water at Hess Lake.

River skiing sounds good -- I was on Black Creek in Florida. It is warm down there -- warmer than you can image in the summer. Thanks for the tip -- I will head up there.

ohh and I forgot to mention the Gators and Cotton Mouths that are everywhere in Florida -- It may be warm -- but the water is filled with Critters -- For five years I boarded with the thought of Gators in the back of my mind.

Everyone has talked about how crowded it is up here -- but I cannot image it being more crowded than in Florida -- On any given day I was assured of seeing at least one Air Nautique, Malibu, a couple MC's, and a gang of Redneck Wallies tubing on the glassy water . . .

I usually put in either at Hutchins Lake in Fennville or Lake Macatawa, when I feel like taking a ride on the Big Lake. We live in Holland, but closer to Saugatuck. I too cannot say enough good about Action Water Sports. We bought our 230 last year and had a few minor problems, and they gave excellent service. I pick mine up on the 25th of this month. :)

04-14-2005, 01:09 PM
I'm from Holland and I typically ski on Minor Lake (near Allegan) and I occasionly ski on Big Star Lake...when it's not a complete free-for-all. I actually got a few ski runs in last weekend. It was a little chilly but well worth it! The water got warmer evertime I fell :) Ditto on Action Water Sports! They do an awesome job!

Put the boat in today, filled up the sacs and hit the 40 degree water  with the wake board. Not bad for 4/16, especially when we were snowboarding late last month at Nubs Nob - love that super pipe  .

No, I just put a drop light hanging between the engine and the heater core. I had a temp gauge in it last night and it stayed around 55, temp only got to 33/32 though.

erkoehler
04-24-2005, 04:04 PM
That makes it easier, is it still snowing?

ski36short
04-24-2005, 05:20 PM
Still snowing here. I pulled the boat out yesterday morning and put it in the garage to keep the cover from tearing under the weight of the snow - canopy isn't up yet. When it melts it will probably do some damage to the water temps...

My son and I ski with the Grand City Skiers (West Michigan Water Ski Assoc.) Check us out at http://www.wmwsa.org/

If you love skiing (Cypress Garden style show skiing) you should think about joining!

Yep, guess I was asking for that one.

I spent 3 years in Ann Arbor. Skiied a couple times on Lake St. Clair in September. Icy.

An occasional hurricane is a small price to pay for year-round skiing/surfing/fishing.

Not to rub it in but....

I was on the Thornapple River wakeboarding through the slalom course last evening because there were no other boats on the water in my stretch of river. :friday:

The course rarely gets used here. When it does it is by die hards who are out there at dawn. I like my pillow better than that.

Gull Lake is a nice big lake that has a LOT of traffic. I grew up on that lake but moved off because we could never ski anymore, too much traffic and too many large boats throwing wakes that would come over our bow. There are quite a few 24-35ft boats out there now. If you go really early you could get some skiing in, the course is long gone though. Usually the best places to ski are the two bays on the south side, just watch the sand bar. There is a good ice cream shop in the bay with a dock to tie off on that serves Plainwell ice cream. You might be better off using the public access on Sherman lake which is just up the road. I think it's no wake outside of 11-7 though. It's a much smaller lake with less traffic. Custer is close to a couple lakes in Battle Creek as well but I'm not familar with them.

I am interested in learning how to change the transmission fluid and oil on my 1995 Prostar 190. I would like to actually see someone do it. If anyone within 45 minutes of the Holland/Zeeland area wouldn't mind showing me how it's done I would really appreciate it.
