When I look for the 15W-40 CG-4 SJ motor oil that is recommended it is quite difficult to find. It is also a Diesel Engine oil. Anybody have any recommendations?

I'll add: Don't pee on an electric fence.

I think you're fine if you stay with the same weight.

Try Wal-Mart, in the marine dept, back by the septic tanks, caskets and mobile home axles!

API service classification CG-4/SJ is old and obsolete. The current spec you'll be looking for is CI-4 Plus. Same oil, and yes, it is a diesel oil. You may find it in a so-called "marine" version, but it's the same oil with a different label. Oil company marketing departments don't miss a trick.

I've used Amsoil's 15w40 Diesel Marine oil for years.

Ill ask the question since no one else did: What year is your boat and which engine does it have?

Consult the attached file for the real scoop on API Service marks. Common heavy duty oils such as Rotella and Ursa meet these requirements. They can be found at WalMart, Costco, auto parts stores, Boater's World, and many truck stops.
