I'm considering buying an electric buffer to polish the boat, but I'm unsure what type to buy. Does anyone use an electric buffer, and if so what would you recommend.

Click around on this site (as there are many others) http://www.properboatcare.com/bowtostprpos.html

I'd recommend the Porter Cable 7424 (dual action) buffer. Their 7428 is a single action rotary buffer which is not quite so foregiving to the novice user (as myself).

I second the dual action Porter Cable. Excellent machine and you'll get great results. Make sure to use correct pad for type of product application.

I had a Makita at the last dealership and it needs to be variable speed. Dual action is nice but it HAS to be variable speed.

Makita BO6040 It is both a circular and an orbital polisher. Works great in circular mode for compounding and is idot broof in the tandom orbit mode for polishing and waxing. Two detailing tools in one. I am very happy with my purchase

Here is a link to the Makita although I was able to find it elsewhere for less money.
