i purchased a 97 200vrs. previous owner just had shop change all fluids. engine,tranny,v-drive. the tranny and v-drive both have tranny fluid. should a guy suck tranny fluid out of v-drive and put motor oil in. or is tranny fluid okay?

Unfortunately, the owners manual for your boat (at http://www.mastercraft.com/manuals/1994-1997_OwnersManual-MS200-MS205.pdf) doesn't specify what the v-drive should contain. ATF in the transmission, sure.

Hopefully, one of the other experts will help you out. My boat isn't close enough.

I have a 94 225 vrs with a Walters V drive. The trans is a Velvet drive. On Walter's website you can down load the manual. If not I scan my copy and e-mail it to you. Their manual states "Unscrew the #12 Breather cap and fill the V-drive with SAE #30 heavy duty non-getergent motor oil through the #12a breather elbow". The model will determine the amount needed.

HrkDrivr and I only have one dipstick in our ZF Hurth V-drive transmissions.

Yes, that vintage of MasterCraft V-drive was different than current boats, which use ZF Hurths. I was responding originally to Hrkdrivr, who was exhibiting some (relatively common) confusion on the issue relative to his boat. The ZF Hurths are all one unit, only have one dipstick, and are currently recommended to use 15W40 engine oil. That is different than Walther's V-drive boats from years past, and if your's falls into the model range indictated in the very useful link posted by bec1971, that's the information you should use.

Canada Air,

The Maristar VRS were the same from 94 to 97. You can also get the specs/original owners manual, if you do not have already, from this link.
