View Full Version : Engines getting less powerful, or what's happening?

Where is the power going?
- According to OJ Prop, they designed the 14.5x22 for the L18 X45, but newer L18's can't turn it. http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=22241 Why not?
- My new 2008 L18 X45 came with a 13.7x19.5 prop which was surprisingly low to me.
- An OLD (2006) X45 with just an MCX (350hp) was tested with a 13.7x17 and did 0-30 in 7.8 secs, 0-36 in 11.3 secs.

So why would a new 450hp L18 come with close to the same pitch and same diameter than a 2006 MCX had no trouble with out of hole on? I would have expected at least a 14.25 diameter or more pitch.
I was told I was not getting a high altitude prop, so I'm really wondering where MC anticipates the power going?

Was it all the change from silentmaster to baffled tips and transom hole size change, (http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=21980&page=3) ? Why won't the 2008 L18 X45 turn the same prop as the 2006 L18 X45 could? Or is it something else?

Does the 2008 MCX also come with the 13.7x17 like the 2006 waterskimag test boat used, or did that engine get a smaller pitch prop now too?
I don't have the answers, but if new L18's can't use the same prop as 2006 L18's, something's changed, and I'd like to know what, in case it can be fixed.
