I just bought this 83 Stars and Stripes. It needs some work, but it's all original and mechanically good. Cosmetically it needs some work. I already pulled the old carpet out. It is a fiberglass stringer model so that's good. The floor has a couple soft parts I am going to address. What do you guys think? I hate to see these boats sit and get ruined!

What color is the metal flake?

Brown. It still looks pretty good. Needs a good buff. Anybody know where I can get marine carpet from? Is there a place online?

Justin, good find. I had a red/white 82 slot and wish I never got rid of it. what do you plan to do with it? keep it or fix up and sell it? either way it is good to keep it running in good order.

I am going to restore as best I can. Either sell it or keep it as a classic after that. I haven't decided that yet. Either way she will get the attention she deserves.

You guys got any advice on bringing the metal flake back?

Got any close ups of the worst spots of the flake?

Be careful you dont buff too much and expose the flake. If the flake is thru the gel, it will need gelcoat.

The metal flake isn't bad. It's still smooth when you run your had over it. I have seen some that are very coarse, mine isn't like that. Some spots still look great without doing anything to it. You know a good spot to buy marine carpet ski king?

I got mine at an upolstery shop. I have see places like Overtons that have it in the catalog. You might want to check with a local boat dealer.

For marine carpet, overtons I know has a large selection. If you don't get a catalog from them you should go on their website and request one or call them.

Keep us updated with pics....this boat has serious potential! Can't wait to see it when its done!

Nice 83! I picked up an 85 slot last year and have been restoring it as well. I thought I would chime in on the marine carpet. We have Lowes hardware stores out here and they have a marine carpet program that sells a couple of different grades of marine carpet. IF you have Lowes near you it would be worth checking into.

I just discovered a hole in the bottom of the boat. It was under the bunk. Looks like the bunk broke at one time and the bolt punctured the boat. Any advice on how to fix this?

no, there was one in the E-trader all last summer, then it popped back up around Jan

same colors, guy was selling it through his sister because he's deaf.

the one I'm talking about started out at around $6,000 OBO and last I saw it was down to $3500

really wanted to see the boat but it was over near Fort Worth or Grapevine don't remember

He was deaf that I bought it from. Must have been the same one. Curious what I got it for?

You know this whole board is curious...$? but that's why you didn't post it
so we'd all be floundering around. My old ski buddy had that exact boat and paint scheme w/o PS though. Try Pontoon stuff.com for marine carpet. They will send you samples and they have various grades and weights, textures, etc.

$2000

I think I did really good. I have heard it said on here before that a Mastercraft that runs and floats is worth $5000.

This is a major score!

That boat was advertised in a weekly newspaper at the facility I work at. I called about it last spring and got the guys sister, she said her brother was deaf, he and his son didn't use the boat any longer and wanted to get rid of it.

Asking price $6,000

That boat was in the little paper all spring, summer, and fall last year. Showed up a couple of times over the winter and once this spring.

This spring the last time I saw it

Asking price $4,000 OBO

Idiot me never called..................................

Good snag Justin!

i picked up my 79 S&S last month for 2800. Its in GREAT shape. No holes, carpet is in good shape, engine works great. All it needs is a little tuning with the packing nut and some glue on the carpet in the floor under the console. its even got a tower and speakers.

Is this kinda of price unusual?

The '82 looks great. post some picks of the restoration as it goes along.

Tim,

That boat was advertised in the news letter where you work? I saw that flyer when you check in at security. I never looked in it though. I wonder how it got in there?

I agree it was a good score as well!
