Hi Guys, im a new member here and hope i can get some advice. I currently own a Tige 20v and i am looking to upgrade.
I have the chance to get a 2007 PWT X Star with all options and a 8.1 motor. Can anyone give some info regarding the engine, [fuel econamy, and is a good motor for wake surfing.]
Also have the chance on one with the 6lt motor.
What motor is thought of as better of the two. Any adice and help would be great.

6L vs. 8.1L is a huge debate. Are you at altitude at all?

We don't have any altitude issues here in Chicago so the 6L is more than enough for us.

I live in Australia and home town and dam is 2000ft above sea level, we will do some boating closer to coast approx 900 ft above,

I can't comment on those two engines from personal experience, mine has the MCX. (love it) Based on what I've read on here, I would favor the 6.0 liter. I don't think there would be much if any fuel economy difference, but if you are running real heavy ballast, get the 8.1 liter.

Can't go wrong with either engine though.

What's the cost difference of these two boats?

I have owned an X star with the MCX and the 8100 engine. The 8.1L is definetly a bear and my favorite. The horspeower is nice but low end torque of the engine is what you need for surfing. An added plus is the 8.1 engine gives you the option to swing a lrger prop which is nice for prop wash and fuel economy.

Boats with the smaller engines usually prop down to the smaller prop to get decent acceleration.

Just my $.02

MYMC has the most knowledge here on X-Stars and has given some lengthy explanations on why you should get the 8.1.

This is one of his best....

Don't the props turn in the other direction down under?
