We're staying at the Wynn but just using it as a home base. Going with my wife and another couple. We're going to see Cirque du Soleil "O" one night, but other than that it's just experiencing what we can.

I understand food can be pricey so we're looking for places (especially breakfast) that are a decent value.

Know of any places that'll teach you cards and such w/o bending you over?

What else???

"O" is phenomenal. I never thought I would think that, considering the cost, but it was worth the money.

Not sure how long you'll be there, but a side trip to the Hoover Dam is worth it if you have time.

Mandaly Bay has a great breakfast buffet, kind of pricey, but man is it good. The also have the best orange juice, last time I was there I think I had about 8 tall glasses. You should also take free craps lessons while your there so you can be a "true" gambler, most casinos will have lessons in the morning during off peak times, just ask around.

Oh yeah, you are making me jealous...

We're out here now, I had to come out for a convention, wife came out for a few days too. Staying @ JW Marriot, very nice place. Way off the strip though.

We are enjoying the warm weather a lot. I think the weather next week looks good too. We went hiking @ Red Rock Canyon State Park today. We're not avid hikers, but the ~3 mile trail we took was awesome. I'd recommend that, as the $5 entry to the park will get you a lot more hours than the casino & the scenery is cool. There were some little waterfalls & stuff.

We'll probably go hit the strip a few nights, nothing major. I read the Mirage Volcano is down for rebuilding now. Also, you need to go to Fremont Street (N. of the strip) to see the lights there. A bit of history with the older casinos. Outside the regular stuff, that would be my recommendations. The dam is cool too, we went there last time we were here.

Enjoy.

Donít over think it:rolleyes:

If you knew me you would know that's almost impossible. I'm kinda sick that way...:o

We're going to stay close to the strip as we won't be there terribly long (4 nights). So we'll take in the one big show (Cirque) and then do other stuff.

Can't wait to see the special dress the wife picked out for the big night on the town! :D

Thanks for the tips. Keep 'em coming.

P-HAT,

Sounds like it is going to be an awesome trip. The wife and I enjoyed the Stratosphere. Both the rides and the bar at the top were worthwhile.

really all depends on what you are looking for... Vegas has decent food for very reasonable prices... I know there were several casinos down there that had all you can eat pancakes for 1.99 back in the late 90's when I was down there last time. But I know that casino has now hit the dust as well. Just look around, there's always a buffet for cheap for those quick simple meals

Don't gamble at any place with auto-shufflers, Bellagio, Wynn. I like Caesar's for blackjack. Venetian is nice for couples and shopping, Paris is pretty cool with a great, but pricey dinning over looking the strip and the fountain display at Bellagio. Never go to a "learning" table for anything.

March Madness is the best time to be in Vegas, makes the games much more interesting!! I doubt your wives want to come to Vegas to sit in the sports book, but might be worth betting on a few games. Especially parlaying some games together!

Vegas has some sweet golf courses, too! Spas are nice for the ladies!!

Vegas is the "WOW" factor 10 fold. Every time I go It's WOW (ready to go home in a week thou!) but Buffets are the way to go. The casino will have coupons and specials (take advantage of them) Across from the Stratosphere is a great breakfast buffet (cheap) most have a "reasonable priced" buffet menu. Alot of good shows at a good price. Riviera has a "Broadway type show" funny as h*ll. It's like $20 for the show w/2 free drinks and $20 to play video poker. The water show is free at the Bellagio(cool) The pirate show is free at Treasure Island (very good) If you don't have tickets to "O" yet!! Good luck! yr waiting list I hear now. "O" is bad a**. They do have a topless magican show In the little casino next to the Luxor:D Again free 2 drinks w/purchase:D
Old down towns "Golden Nugget" with the Freemont Experience I would say is a must. Don't matter where you go there it is a good time!(Vegas wise)

Fake like your playing slots w/coin cup in hand a you can get the free drinks w/out sitting at a table all night:D If you do slots play the Dollar ones and do MAX bet every time (highest odds)

Get ready to hear all the time where ever you go!!

If you like cars, there is a pretty large collection at the Imperial Palace (just across the strip from Mirage). If you walk by the entrance there are guys trying to sell you time shares and they will get you in free w/o having to deal w/ the timeshare B.S. Even if it isn't free, it's only $7-8.00. Not just cool stuff for the guys, but the gals might appreciate some of their collection too (Elvis, Liberace, and stuff like that).
For dinner and atmosphere w/o going totally over the top.. the "Top of the World" rest. at Stratosphere is great. It rotates 360' and if you go at dusk, you see the city in light and at dark from 120 stories up. You can even enjoy a little thrill ride w/ the "Big Shot" (freefall ride) before dinner. That one will make you pee.. it is like falling out of an airplane from that height.

Just returned Fri night from Vegas - ConExpo all week. A safe card bet is Carribean Stud. Last year on a social trip found good/cheap food 1-2 blocks off the strip. Expect to pay $8 for a beer anywhere. Get a buzz in the hotel room before heading out. We saw Penn & Teller(RIO) last week for @ $70 - well worth it.Good Luck!

Not anymore...Seems like most places, food and drinks are very expensive. $7 beers, $30-$40 entrees. NY NY has a few places that are resonable. We ate at a Mexican place that had $10-$14 dinners.

Drinks are "free" as long as you are gambling;)

Well...unfortunately we had to return from Vegas last night.

What a city! As much, or as little, to do as you want! I loved being able to eat (breakfast, lunch, or dinner) and just taking your unfinished beer with you while walking the strip.

The Wynn was VERY nice and we had a great view from the 33rd floor.
Our view overlooked Treasure Island, The Mirage, Palazzo, and the mountain range (with setting full moon).

On a "Fun Meter" we did great! On a gambling meter we gave a small amount of money away. We just got our feet wet so we didn't go crazy gambling.

We saw Cirque du Soleil - O. Pretty amazing.

The cranes aren't at Caesars. They are kind off across the street next to the Venetion(?). You can't walk the strip w/o seeing construction in both directions.

Hotels under construction (http://www.reviewjournal.com/hotels/underconstruction.html)

Wynn is building (what looks like) a mirror image right next door...Encore. (Sorry for bad picture...in a moving car).

I Just Got Back From There About 3 Weeks Ago. I Just Got Married! We Stayed At The Luxor And Criss Angel And Carrottop Was In Out Hotel. We Had A Blast! You Have To See The Cirque Du Soleil! Its Awesome! We Saw Mystere And It Was Great!

How Long Are You Staying?

Did you try the Bellagio buffet?
Negative. The buffets were capitalizing by adding the word "Holiday" to their buffet and that meant to the cost too! I think the "Holiday" buffet at the Wynn was around $45-$50 per person and I just can't eat that much.

O2...Congrats!
We're back now and did see Cirque "O". We got there Friday morning and returned yesterday. Fun landing in 50mph gusts in Chicago and Columbus. :steering:

Put $500 on red 7. I got a feelin'.

Breakfast buffet at The Flamingo, dinner at The Harley Cafe. Their microbrew is really good and come in a 2' tall pitcher with a tap on the bottom.

Put $500 on red 7. I got a feelin'.
Quick story. A college-aged kid sits down, puts $100 in video roulette, bets $50 on red. Comes up black. Bets remaining $50 on red. Comes up black. Gets up, taps machine, and walks off." $100 in less than 1min. I know that's small time out there, but it made me shake my head.

OK...one more. Some guys are sitting at the same game (video roulette). They have $5 bet on red and $5 bet on black. They are basically 'pushing' every time just to build 'points' up on their gambling card (and annoying me by taking space). A few spins later I hear "!@$&" and look over to see the green "0". I laughed, he got up and left. :D

Breakfast buffet at The Flamingo...
Look for the $3.95 breakfast at La Salsa (in Miracle Mile mall and/or across from NY/NY). It's not a buffet, but a real reasonable priced breakfast (2 egss, meat, and mexican version potatos).

Casino's don't like you doing that. Pretty sure if they catch you at doing it at a real table, they'll warn you or make you leave. Same goes for the craps table, you bet on the pass line and your buddy bets on the do not pass line. Push, drink for free until you get caught, which doesn't take long.

Yeah...pretty crazy how much things are 'watched' out there. No direct exchange (hand to hand) of money on the tables. Money gets put on table as well as chips when cashing out. It seems very deliberate so the 'eyes in the sky' can verify everything that is going on.

Yeah, my uncle works at the MGM, he used to be pretty high up at the Desert Inn. He has many good stories, including managing a strip club after the Desert Inn, but before working at the MGM.

One time at the Desert Inn this guy suddenly started winning big at baccarat. Well, they guy winning big had the dealer in on it. They switched out the cards, the pit boss didn't catch it, but thought something was up. Pit Boss asked my uncle what to do, he said make him shuffle the cards again. They did. The cameras caught them. Dealer is still in jail, saying the guy winning threatened his family. Pit boss was fired :o
