I'm in the the market for a Scan Tool (primarily for Automotive use) and wanted to find out what experiences people here on the board have had with different brands/models. I don't want just a code reader, I want something which will allow real time sensor readings and to clear codes and would like the ability to "ping" sensors and/or interface with my laptop.

For tuning an engine? If so, Gas or Diesel?

Check this place out.

They allow you to plug your laptop into your car via the OBDII port. There is a lot of software available for these interfaces. You can look at error codes, clear maintenance flags, and look at sensors in real time.

I use a Vag-Com http://www.ross-tech.com/ for my Audi and VW. Works great on them but its brand specific, gives you allot of options.

For a generic Scan Tool and gauge I have a http://www.scangauge.com/, tthat is okay. Its limited beyond being a gauge or simple scan tool

JR, primarily for tuning a gas but maybe diesel down the road.. I have a pretty fair amount of exp with gas but none with diesel. Primarily will be used for my own use but also starting to do a little side work to pay the bills... State job doesn't pay...

Thanks guys.. I'll check those out.. The laptop software sounds like it might be more along the lines of what I'm looking for.

I use this one, I bought it from this seller too. There are a lot available that ship from china for less but I am not at a point where I would trust that transaction. I understand this is all coming from the same place, I would rather have someone else do the foreign transaction and deal with shipping.
