View Full Version : What JL Amps w/4 tower speakers on X-Star?

Quick question...what should I have for Amps on a 4 tower speaker set-up (factory) on a '07 X-Star? I've read places that you need to make sure you've got enough juice to get good sound out of the towers. Anyway what should the proper set-up be?

More power the better.....of course. Do you want to stay with JL, or use
another brand? I have used Alpine PDX amplifiers in the past and have had great results. Either the PDX-2.150 or PDX-2.100. Again my two cents.

I bought the boat from the dealer and its new, it had 2JL tower speakers already and dual amps, but I added 2 more and remembered reading that more power was required. Its a factory type set-up, & I've heard good things about JL, so I'll stick with them for now. Going to pick the boat up next week and wanted to know what should be the "minimum" power I should accept, since they replaced the amp that was running 2 tower speakers with a larger one to run all 4...

I use a Jl 300/4 amp for my tower, and they sound great. That is sending 75 watts to each speaker.

I would guess JL M4300 and JL M6450 from what I remember seeing at the boat show.

You could use an M4300 (which is what we do here) or the 300/4. The "slash" series amps have a "Regulated Power Supply" meaning they are going to try and produce rated power no matter what the input voltage is...what this means is the can and will kill a battery if the charge system isnt able to keep up.

My '07 X-Star has an M2150 and a M6450, stock with 4 tower speakers.

I'm rewiring mine so that the tower runs on a Rockfort 850.4

Yeah, I remember that through another thread.

I have some other upgrades I am looking at before I hit the stereo. I am happy with it for now.

I like what you did with the sub install, real nice work, very professional looking.
