In a discussion about the 209's wakes for skiing, it was mentioned that a "hook" was added to later models to flatten out the wake some. Is this something that could be done to a 2002 hull or does this mena the entire hull was different.

Thanks. I need to remember to always do a search before asking a question because it seems like everything's been asked at some point. That being said, I did the search on hull hooking and understand that it is something that can be done to my 209. I didn't see much info on cost though. Does anyone have an idea of what it would cost now to add a hook to the hull of a 2002 209?

I talked to a well respected glass guy here about doing it on an older 205 and I recall the number $700 being thrown out. He had done some 197s as well as older boats. With the 205, I didn't see much need for it though.

That's a lot cheaper than buying a 214.

Just remember you'll see a drop in top speed and an increase in fuel consumption.

does the hook make the wake better for slalom or worse?

yes.

I know that sounds odd, you know how there is always talk about the bump? be it 22 or 28?

A hook can actually change the location of the bump. if its located at a line length you're running then its trouble, but if really it was between 15 and 22 you should have wakes about the same, perhaps a bit flatter but it has to go somewhere.
