If this has been discussed or suggested before, my apologies, but......

PM storage should be increased. I am on another forum where the pm storage was increased from 100 to 1000.

5400+ members. Increasing the number of private messages has the potential to represent a lot of storage for whomever is footing the bill for this free server.

The other forum has over 40,000 members and is also a free forum. Cost aside, do you agree with the suggestion?

Agreeed John 50 messages is too small. One would think MC has the money...

To be honest, I don't care one way or the other. I'd rather see them add bandwidth, upgrade the site to the current version of vBulletin, add direct video file embedding...a few other little doo dads. There's not much administrator presence here...shoot, TMC won't even allow animated avatars, and won't even respond to multiple requests from multiple users.

Put your email address in your signature and you won't ever need PMs again.
I used to think the PM boxes were too small. I don't anymore, I just leave it full, now I don't receive as many PMs..... Right Beau??...8p

No, but you'll need a higher-volume spam filter.

I use yahoo and they have unlimited e-mails. I do get some e-mails from here and AFAIK, none have ended up in spam.

Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, baked beans and Spam!

How big do you reckon the server is?

Thanks for bumping the thread everyone. 50 messages is still not enough. Heck I've been saving 48 from Harold on teak maintenance alone.:D Couple that with the 49 questions I've asked him and you get the picture.;)

They really love us, don't they?!Well, that was posted before they migrated the site. It was a very laggy and unreliable site then. Now, however, it really flies. MC has definitely improved functionality around here, no question.

If we really need to save a message, it's not hard to create a folder and keep it on our own computer but it would be nice to have easy access for future reference and later comments. If I have to make a folder, it's really no big deal, but it's not as convenient and since incoming and sent messages count against the total, it's not hard to end up with a full mailbox and have messages kicked back without knowing about it. A couple of days ago, I had 9 new messages before 9 AM.

With your logic 10 pm's is plenty.:D With my logic, 1000 isn't enough.;)

I always delete mine the day after and as a pm builds, it records the previous one if replies are sent back and forth, so there is no need to store the previous ones.

JimN

That was just in one morning, and I have some that I didn't want to delete. I usually have over 30 messages in all of my boxes at any time, so if I respond to ten, I'm more than full.

Maybe is should be increased at different levels of post counts, that way those that contribute get rewarded.

In today's computer environment, hard disks are extremely cheap. The cost to grow the PM space to a larger message count really is minimal. Hopefully, the powers at be will hear the request and give it serious consideration...

On a side note, we're likely just a few years from internally spinning hard disks being obsolete. Coming are Solid State Drives (SSDs) which are similar to flash drives. Therefore, with no spinning components, the computers will be much more reliable. But regretfully, there is still Winblows...
