I'm in the middle of getting the boat ready for spring when I notice one of my speakers cones is cracked. I figure that since all 4 speakers look like the cheapest Pioneers (TSM163), I guess it's time for an upgrade.

Any suggestions on decent 6.5" speakers, without breaking the bank?

I was thinking of the Polk Audio db651s.

Or maybe the Alpine SPSM600:

Polks.

Good speakers and not too bad on the wallet.

I would also recommend the polks on a budget. I put a set in my pontoon and was pleasantly surprised.

Polks can be found on eBay for half of Crutchfield price.

I just ordered a pair of DB651's from that seller, which should arrive tomorrow. I have DB650 component speakers in the rear and wanted something comparable for the front. I hear good things.

I my last boat, I got very good decent sound out of some relatively inexpensive Infinity 6.5" speakers. I saw these listed for $27 a pair the other day. Had I not already had Polks in the back, I might have bought a set of four infinitys based on good past experience with them.

ETS - let me know what you think of the Polks. I am thinking of getting the Polks in a couple of weeks for the new boat. All of the reviews I have read were very positive.

The Polk component speakers in the rear sound very good. These are coaxial and I expect they'll sound every bit as good. I'm currently chasing a power problem to one of the amps and think I have it nailed down. Hopefully, the full system will be back up and running this weekend.

I'm not really a mobile audiophile apart from a decent tuner and a good set of speakers. But since the boat came with the amps and sub, I want to be sure it's all working. The big amp just had a blown fuse. I'm hoping the little amp is suffering from the same problem.

I have the same infinities in mine, only 2 though near the backseat. Does anyone know if there are 2 precut holes in the front also for the speakers? I had never thought to look, but thought of it while reading this thread. I have a 92 prostar 190.

Yes, there should be. Feel behind the combing pads and you should find them.

I knew you would have the answer. I am going to add two this month, since I have to replace the others. Terrible sound after 15 years!

I have the polks also. No complaints at all. For the money I felt they were the best bang for the buck.

while we're on the audio subject...

anybody got any input on the cheapest way to set up a talk back system where i can talk to a rider through my tower speakers w/o having to switch between the cd player and microphone continuously?

And another vote for the Polks...I put them in my boat this past fall...can't wait to use them on the lake this season.

Let me know how they are and how that seller was to deal with. I see he has a bit of negative feedback.

Whoops. Sorry. Different seller. Mine were less expensive and the guy had 100% positive feedback and a lot of transactions.

Link to the Speakers he has for sale (http://stores.ebay.com/Mobile-Dreamz_Speakers_W0QQcolZ2QQdirZ1QQfsubZ14QQftidZ2Q QtZkm).
