Howdy, new to the forum. Just purchased an 82 says 83 in the Hull ID. It's white with teal stripe with a thin pink stripe above that.
The letter before 83 is "M", that would be the 13th month of 83. Also after the series of numbers there is a space and the letters P B".
If anyone can break the code I'm all ears.
thanks

Thanks, I saw that. It doesn't explain why there in an "M" before the 83. A-L is for Jan-Dec. M would be a 13th month.
I dropped an email to MBC maybe they can shed some light on it. Most whove seen it don't understand why it's not a "Stars and Stripes".

I heard he had a ten-foot ... nevermind.

Welcome.

I would contact gregory.clower@mastercraft.com (MC Owner Relations/Team MasterCraft) and give him those #'s and see what he can come up with, if anything. PB could be Promo Boat or Prototype Boat, who knows.

My 82 has an M before the 82 . Reads "M82A -D".

Thanks, I really appreciate the help!

I guess what I really want to know is if it has the fiberglass stringers. I've got to pull the tranny so I'll find out then. From what I've gathered so far is they started the fiberglass stingers in mid 83.

Correct. Composite stringers mid-run of 83 model year. Yours are wood.

Is it not painfully obvious that the teal stripe (and trailer) have been painted and are not original?

If so the title has been altered in Texas and that's not an easy thing to do. I've got paper work going back 3 owners. I've got the signed certificate on the trailer from some vp at MBC and it says the colors are what the title's for boat and trailer say and what my eyes are seeing.
If it has been, someone took the time to reupolster the seats, engine cover, and the rest of the interior in matching colors to the hull.
You flater me with my photography though:)

I've never seen that color combination on an early 80s MC. The side decal looks more like late 80s early 90s.

/edit. But, of course, I say that, and here's a similar color in an 84.

I guess just throw a pink stripe on there, update the upholstery and add some newer decals and there ya have it!

The colors are without question early/mid 90's

The pattern though is very early 80s S&S. I remember my local dealer being very complimentary about how well MC did with their gel stripes. Probably not something terribly easy to duplicate with a whole lot of accuracy and seamlessness if it"s not original.

Sodar, I'm guessing you all's early 90s Hydrodyne was the same or similar color pattern. :)

I got this reply from MasterCraft when I sent them the Hull ID number. Nice of them to check......

I’m told that 1983 was the first year for all fiberglass stringers. The color scheme changed from the stars and stripes in the early 80’s.

Thank You,

Very Very tough to tell what you have there. I cannot see the engine compartment good enough to determine if you have wood stringers or
fiberglass. I can tell ya right now the interior is not original nor is the
stickers on the outside. If that is ORIGINAL gel...Holly Crap Batman
Where did that come from. I think it was repainted or gelcoated. If not well ya learn something new everyday.

MC may not have the records that you need to find the origin of your boat. Alot of those records went away along time ago. You do have a powerslot transmission for sure.

The motor in 82/83 was a FORD 351 by PCM. Normally painted a solver color.

Looks like a project that can be completed by late spring

Jim, if it's an 82, why would composite stringers be a question?
