O.K., we finally decided on a houseboat on Norris Lake for the parents 50th Anniv. celebration but wondering what you all think of the best part of the lake for this. In looking at a map of it I would call it the north part or southern part (hope that makes sense) Any ideas as to a good area to go. We'll be doing some barefooting, wakeboarding and have a few small kids for the tubing. :)

We stayed here, http://www.norrislakemarinas.com/marina/shanghai-resort/ when MasterCraft held it 2005 Boat Owners Reunion there. Not being disrespectable or anything, but the owner treated us like crap, cause Norris Lake is a Bu lake according to him and they act better than we did. He held the actions of one jerk against us all and complained about everything we did, while the whole time MC was spending big bucks for using his empty parking lot for the boat judging, Banquet and meal provided by his restaurant and MC rented a houseboat. We all bought ice, beer, gas, snacks, supplies, ate several meals at his restaurant, stayed 4 nights in his motel, yet he treated us like we didn't exist. The motel was 4 years old, satelitte TV only had 2 channels, the rooms had no phones, was not like a Motel 6, but more like a Motel 1.2! When we checked out Saturday evening before we left on Sunday morning, I made a special attempt to thank and let him know how much we enjoyed our stay and he said he didn't have time to discuss it with me, cause he was busy. Next time, if there is one, I'll take my money somewhere else or not even go.

Norris IS a big lake! (to me anyway)

Check out Shanghi (sp) resort/marina. Our Sea Doo group has been going there for several years now and they have treated us top notch every year. I cant remember the owners name at the moment but they did us right.

The marina is "sorta" central so you can take your pick of the water, we went in early may and the water was a bit cool but it was glass everywhere we went. It's nothing less than awesome:)

Wish we could make it this year...

Norris is HUGE! And amazing! Shanghi is the best resort. I spend alot of time on norris, been to many marinas, and like this one the best. If the water is down, be very careful on the main lake, the open part, as there are many shallow parts unmarked. Gets expensive! Trust me! Have a blast! You are headed to Heaven! BTW, there is a bridge near Shanghi, good place to put the houseboat, and a fun party cove!

Thanks for all the great info. Shanghai was definately on our list. We were looking at the 2nd week of June. Hopefully not to busy then yet.
We'll let you all know how it goes. I hope we can still be doing this boating thing with our kids when we hit 50 years of marriage!!!

We have scheduled a trip for June 13-16 at Shanghai. Have one 7 year old, but not sure if he is taking a buddy. Have any kids his age he can hang/swim/ski with?
