I have a 1989 Tristar 190, and I was having problems with a weak starter. I had it rebuilt, and also replaced the starter relay. Everything sounds good (the starter is a lot smoother and faster-sounding), except the engine just won't catch. It has not been started since last September. Is this maybe a fuel problem, or maybe an electrical problem I created when I replaced the starter and relay? Thanks.

Welcome to the board. Did you check the kill switch ("dead man's cable") to see if it was attached properly?

Nope. Mainly because I didn't know there was one (pretty new to this, but happy to learn). Where would it be located? I never had this problem before, and every cable and wire I removed I replaced in exactly the same fashion, or at least I think I did.

should be on the dash next to the key, I think. That's where it is on my PS190.

My boat doesn't have one, at least not next to the key.

got me, there's no button or anything in that area? I would think an '89 would have one for sure.

Seems like the kill switch on my brother's '87 is next to the throttle. It's in the same location on my '94 too.

If your 89 has one it could be just in front or behind the throttle.

93 is just behind the throttle lever.
