I pulled the boat home Friday night to get a few things done before the next boat show. I got the amplifiers mounted, the subwoofer box, and the heater installed. A few more items to go and it is finished! I should have a few pictures of the interior led lights tomorrow to post. Have a good one.

That looks very nice. I am going to ask a dumb question. How do you mount the amps? I am scared I will bust through the fiberglass if I mount mine like that.

You do have to be very careful. There is about a half inch of abs that MC puts in the fiberglass for this purpose. If you have an older model MC that doens't have this, I have used pl or liquid nail to glue a backer piece to the side wall for mounting. Also, when I removed the factory JL Audio amplifiers, I kept the screws for reference.

Sounds pretty good. Actually, about the same as the old '07 X-2. Same equipment, so it was predictable and loud.

So how do those subs sound with only a 10" hole to release the air pressure? I am looking at doing something very similar in another boat but did not know how it would sound. My logic tells me it would compromise the SPL.........

You know, I have done the same set up on a few boats, and I have been pretty pleased with the results. Sure, I could have done it a few different ways to get a little bit more out of it, but I just went with what worked in the past. I may over the next winter, (since I am about tapped out physically at the moment) fabricated a custom grill and double the size of the opening. But again, thats a project for down the road. Plus that opening was already there, so I went with it. Again, overall I am pleased with it.

I will answer a few questions with one post here.
.
1) Yep, only two amplifiers- 1- Alpine PDX 1.1000 on bass, 1- Alpine PDX-4.150 on highs. Works well with the one amp on highs. Runs at a nice cool 4ohm, loud, and will run all day long. I have never shut one of these down.
2) Ya, that Wet Sounds boat is sick!! With someone would give me and endless budget and no time frame to do something like that.

Skeeler, do you run the boat and tower speakers off the 4/150? That would be 8 speakers total? Just wondering I thought those JL speakers liked the Juice.

The install and boat look flawless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the kind words. Actually, there are ten speakers; 2 bow speakers, 4 tower speakers, and 4 rear cabin speakers running off the PDX-4.150. It is wired like this;

Two bow speakers wired to channels 1/2, thats pretty straight forward.
I took the 2 left tower speakers and wired them in parallel, then took the two left rear cabin speakers and wired them in parallel, then wired those pairs in series, giving you a 4 ohm load. Repeat the same for the right side, and that makes up channels 3/4. Giving me 150 watts to each speaker.

OK, maybe I'm thinking about this wrong, but assuming that the speaker impedance is 8ohms ea, the resistance across each pair wired in parallel is 4ohms and then putting these two pairs in series is 8ohms on the channel???

Nominal Impedance for each pair is 4 ohm.

Looks sweet skeeler. I think the diodes being refered to the type of LED's used.

I edited this because my first reply sounded snotty. Not meant to sound that way.

Your install is a cosmetic killer. I would throw in every other superlative. Very clean; drenched in good taste.

But unless I'm having a serious brain fart, that is not giving you 150W to each speaker. That is giving you 150W coming out of each amplifier channel. If each speaker (or component set) was getting 150W, your amp would have to be putting out 600W per side on channels 3/4. To the best of my knowledge the 4.150 is not capable of producing more than 150W per channel at any impedance.

It's a somewhat debated topic whether or not parallel then series will provide exactly equal power to each voice coil (this is not an uncommon method for chaining together smallish dual voice coil subs) but in your set up, I believe you are powering each JL component set with around 38W.

Not trying to be a downer, but with the amount of thought and coin that went into this system, something seems terribly wrong (hopefully I'm wrong.)

I have no doubt you are probably correct that each speaker is not getting 150w, but until you buy me another PDX-4.150, I will stick with this. :D No worries!
