I was approached by a neighbor who would like to rent my 5th wheel for a day or two to film an informational video for Honda Generators. They are willing to give me a Honda 2000 generator as the rental fee. They want me to pull it to their office ( about 15 miles ), set it up, and come back and get it the next day. They want to film the appliances beiing used and film some of the outside of the camper. What do you guys think?

Sounds harmless... I'd get that "same time" trade action going though.

I would imagine there will be alot of paperwork involved, but a generator for your efforts might be woth it!

What type of contract should I type up regarding the power hook ups to protect myself in case something is damaged?

I would just "lend" it to them.. No "money" is changing hands;) Make sure they are aware that they are responsible for any damages..

Could you actually be there for the filming and take it back after they are done? I doubt any theft issues would arise but the free generator is kewl.

I'd do it in a minute, Honda generators are not cheap?

I would compare the cost of the generator vs the cost of the rental to verify the value of the deal. If you were going to buy one what would you want? Would you buy the 2000?

There would need to be the normal you break it you bought it type of stuff in the written contract and I would video the before condition inside and out if you don't have that already. etc...

I plan on being there the entire time. Has anyone hooked up a camper to a generator before? Hammer?

Yes, I have with no ill effects. I was able to run the A/C along with other stuff in the summer. It was a 5500 watt. I would imagine they will not use the A/C this time of year and everything else in the camper is pretty low as far as current draw so I would think 2000 would be plenty without running the A/C. It looks like the EU2000i runs about a $1000.00. I would do it. But I would be thee to keep an eye on them.

Thanks for the info. they are actually hooking it up to a 6500(?). They are giving me the 2000i as payment. I should be there the whole time, to check and make sure everything is working OK. Thanks to everyone for their information, it has really helped.

You should be good for sure. By the way the 2000i is an awesome generator. Perfect for tailgating! A buddy has one and we use it all football season for tailgates. VERY quite and powerful.

I hook my camper up to a coleman 5000 all the time, no problems so far.
but, I don't run more appliances than necessary, and I turn on the propane water heater.

now, I've seen a lot of fifth wheels with dual a/c units...... not my case though

the proposition????
I'd do it in a heart beat!

note:
had a buddy killed by a Honda's carbon monoxide.
He was using it in the rear section of a horse hauler / camping unit.
(you've seen them, looks like a travel trailer with a stock trailer on the rear)
apparently, he was using it improperly.:(

We finished the shoot on the camper last Tuesday. Really neat deal. Actors, director, wardrobe, the whole deal. Almost Got my truck and camper stuck in the mud trying to get it to the location, messed up there yard, but they had landscaping people on site to fix the mess. Honda gave me a voucher to have my truck washed since it was covered in mud. They took about 5 hours to do the entire filming. The video is for of the promotional/informational looped video's that they show at the Honda dealers for the generators. They used the EU6000i to power the camper and it was quiet and ran everything easily. Overall, a neat experience that I would do again.

So did they give you the EU2000i? We sell Honda here and we retail that bad boy for around $900. Sounds like a sweet deal for both of you.....
