sea dog impeller remover

I just bought their small impeller remover tool (to keep in the boat along w/ spare impeller), and was wondering if anyone has used it before. It looks like the screw-piston that pushes against the impeller shaft is too long and needs to be trimmed. Any experiences? Overall it looks well made and was only $24. It is the small version.

Bought mine from West Marine and seem to remember it being about double that price.

It was actually $22.76 from boatfix. Did you have to modify it for it to work? I seem to remember the impeller shaft coming out almost flush to the outer edge of the impeller.
