Well, I got my new ACME 541 via UPS today. I slapped it on the boat and took it out for a test spin. I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the results. I had been told that I would probably increase my top end a little bit and maybe lower my rpm at skiing speed. I have a '94 Prostar with the LT-1. I did some measurements with the GPS:

Stock OJ prop -
3000 rpm - 32.0 mph
WOT - 4850 rmp - 48 mph

New ACME 541 13X12
3000 rpm - 31.4 mph
WOT - 4600 rpm - 46.4 mph

I didn't have a way to measure the acceleration, but I've never felt acceleration like the ACME. It was a rocket. However, with the LT-1, I don't need any more holeshot. I guess I'm thinking of exchanging it for the 449 - 13X12.65. I think someone on here is running it - Farmer Ted, maybe? Anyone else running the slightly bigger prop?

I have the 541 also, but will be mid/late April before I can test. I know just looking at the two the ACME blades looks like they are on steroids.

Yeah, the surface area of the ACME is amazing for a 3 blade prop. Anyone using the 449?

Call the folks at acme and give them your results. They will be able to give you a suggestion. What should your max rpms be? If it is suppose to be in the 4800 range from what I see you need to drop down some more in pitch. I doubt your top end will increase but a drop will increase your low end more.

Well, I didn't have a backup prop, so I thought I'd take part in the group buy and get a good deal. The boat is new to me, and the OJ is a 9 year old prop. I'd heard so much good talk about the ACME that I thought I should try it.

I'll call ACME on Monday and see what they recommend. I'm not so worried about top end or hole shot, but I'd like to get a bit better gas mileage, so if I can drop a few rpm at skiing speed it would be great.

kpicket; What horsepower are you running?

You know, I'm not sure. It's a new boat to me. It's a '94 with the LT-1. I've heard 310 and I've heard 330. I'll post a question on the board and see if anyone knows.

My 2001 LTR1 has 330 HP.

308 HP is what comes to my mind for a 94 LT 1.

JRANDOL,
Prop removal. Untighten the prop nut about 3-4 turns. Apply a liberal amount of PB BLASTER to the back side of the prop/shaft. Put on a prop puller...make it tight. Come back a few hours later and apply some more PB BLASTER... really let it soak in. Tighten the prop puller again, some more. Last effort take a 3 LB Hammer. Hit the prop puller on the back side...not the prop It will come off.

If you go down in pitch on a prop you will loose speed and gain hole shot. Go to a 13 x 13 1/2 or a 13 x 14. Why are you going down in pitch instead of up. Does not make any sence.

Yeah, I know it doesn't make sense. I talked to the folks at ACME, and they said I should try the 541 first. They said that there is a lot of variation in the old OJ props, and until I tried a CNC prop, I wouldn't be able to know what pitch I'm actually running. They also said that their 13x12 should be equivalent to the OJ Legend 13x13. They said their 13x12.65 is equivalent to a 13x14, so I think I'll try that one.

Send it back. You've got 30 days, right?

I just got off the phone with the folks from ACME. I talked for a long time with Bill, and I'm going to do some more tests, especially while actually pulling a skier. I won't get to that for a couple weeks, but I'll let you all know what I find out.
