I posted a want ad in the MarketPlace but am curious. I like the look of the square windshields on the 1983 model. When looking for a vintage stars and stripes what are the key items to look for. Which years and engines were the best. Any other information to help me find the perfect vintage stars and stripes would be great and appreciated.

How do they ski? How do they track etc...

Thanks!!

Welcome!

They went to composite stringers mid 1983. Definitely something to consider.

Could not agree more Eastie...but in general all of these older SS boats if taken care of and maintained on a regular basis will last a long, long time, and you will be able to tell by overall condition.

I always liked the "power slot" option as well, and as a personal preference I like the rounded windshields more than the squared off ones, but I own one with the rounded type

All in all you will know what you like when you find it, keep looking and good luck.....:D

I wasn't saying buy one way or the other. I just said they went composite in 83 and it was something to consider. :)

Rick, I have owned my 84 S & S since early '86 and the following things are work I have done: replaced mufflers, replaced packing, replaced carb twice, replaced L seat cushion, replaced Platform bracket screws with thru bolts, replaced steering cable, usual engine tune up stuff, exhaust hoses, probably 7 tarps in 21 years, new tires on the trailer, 2 fuel filters, bilge pump, numerous batteries, and a prop. My boat stays in water from mid-May thru September. Those are the things to look for and budget for. I don't have the powerslot but we use it for footin', lots of slalom in course and out, tubing, trick skiing, wakeboarding a little, and lots of teaching off the boom. Compared to the newer boats it drives like a Porsche. One finger on the wheel BUT the flat bottom makes for a much rougher ride than the new V hulls. You can also do much nicer powerslides and 360's around the boat with the flat bottom. Has a weird habit of nose diving with someone on the boom when you start off maybe one time in twenty. Prop seems to cavitate? If you don't cut the throttle you and the boat will be a submarine.

This boat has good and bad history. The owner used in salt many years ago. The trailer went to trailer heaven. They purchased the current trailer from me personally about 5 years ago. 91 PS 190 trailer. This is where the fun begins. They brought me the boat at BAWS probably 3 years ago. Weeds and trees where growing in the boat. We TOTALLY stripped the boat to bare bones. All NEW original MC interior was put in the boat ALL FROM MC. They supplied a few skins but not all. After a ton of part and frustration. Heads, starter, transmission seals THE WORKS it was running. It was a labor intensive project to say the least. It has been transferred around in there family. It can be brought back I am sure w/ alot of elbow grease and such.

A $2000 purchase would probably sufice to say the least. The current or previous family owner wanted it brought back because of past family history. Request more info and photos. A good project for someone. We removed the tank and cleaned it. Reinstalled the platform...what a project that was. We also cut the floor open. Reglassed some areas and refilled with foam. Stingers where in good shape. Call me for more details if you want. POWERSLOT TRANSMISSION

hope someone gets it and brings it back to life

Jim,
I would love to have that project, but already have one of my own:o
I was wondering about the "91 Prostar" trailer..... the one I see in the ebay ad is much different than mine.... about 20 inches of rear side rail are shown on my trailer.... the one in the ad shows at least 3 feet.
I'm referring to the end of the fiberglass where the taillights are to the rear end of the trailer.
I'm not disputing you, just wondering if I have the proper trailer for my boat:(
It's a 91 PS190

My Bag...

In 1991 MC used regular angle on the trailers. In 1992 they changed to tube steel. That is probably a 1992 or 1993 Trailer under that boat. You have to remember the Older stars and stripes where almost a foot shorter that the 1991-1994 Hulls. I had a customer this week purchase a 2006 197 Trailer for a 1983 stars and stripes. I told him it will hang off the back and he needs to rotate the speedo pickups.

Hope this helps
