I can't speak from experience, but I've heard they are close. At slower speeds there is more of a difference. But I'm curious to hear from those with first hand knowledge.

Yes the X-14 was the so-called replacement for the X-9

They ARE NOT the same hull TOTALLY different

I'm hoping to get a pull behind an X14 at CSM this year. Then I can do a comparison between it and a 197. I sure hope someone has one there.

I took a 214 w/ LY6 to a local slalom course to pull some skiers that were out one weekend last summer.

We didn't get too serious in our reviews, but everyone loved the 214 wake compared to the 209/x-9 wake for skiing.

Wake shape was compared to the 197 and most liked the wake saying that it was very good for the size of the boat. Also making note that the bump was slightly bigger than a 197. They were skiing short line lengths with speeds of 34/36mph if I recall correctly.

The course that we ski'd is very tight on one end, and it handled very well. No issues were found.

Everyone that drove the boat loved the power of the LY6 engine, and thought it was one of the faster MasterCraft boats top end wise.

I skied the 214, and did not care for it. I'll take a 197, or 205 any day over the 214. I was disapointed to say the least, especially after all the hype. I've never skied a 209 so I cant compare them. It was a nice family style boat, lots of seating and plenty of storage, but not a ski wake in my opinion.

i footed behind one with the MCX........i thought it was much better than my X9 at 42mph....it pulled out of the hole better and got me up to speed quicker....its my next boat.....

p.s....i am not a serious slalom skiier so i dont need the 197/x7

What speed and length were you skiiing. Your analysis contradicts everything I've heard.

Several of us skied the boat that day, from 15 off at 30-32mph to 28 off at 34 mph. I'm not looking to knock the boat, just ski it first before you buy one. I have heard others compliment the wake also.

The 214/X14 vs. the 197/X7:
Mid season last year we took the 2 boats to a private lake and tested them back to back through a course at 34 and 36 running line lengths from 15off - 28off and truthfully noticed very little difference. In terms of skiing, thonly difference we noted was that the wake of the 214/x14 was bit wider, but not by much, and certainly not enough to affect one's performance in the course. In terms of driving, while the boat appears to be wider, the wetted surface is pretty much a 197 hull, so it fits through the course and handles great. We too have a short set-up and a tight island at one end and had no problems running a MCX w/1:1 tranny. It was a great test to run the boats back to back and we did take photo's of the wake for comparison purpose, which I believe you can still see on the Boat House Marine website (www.bhmtrilakes.com).
Comparing the 214/X14 to the 209/X9:
Night and day different, unless you had added extra hook to your 209. The wake of the 214/X14 lays down nicely and is not rampy at all as it is the 197 wake.
I am sure that you will see a lot of opinions posted here, so mine s simply this...after skiing them both and truly comparing them, the average to above average course or recreational skier will not notice a difference and will be very happy with the boat.
