As many of you might remember, I just bought this boat in September. (and they say rapping is hard). There's about a foot of snow outside, so it's time to bring it up to 100%.

Generally the boat is in amazing shape, but the decals were a little rough.

Being in the business, that just won't do! People expect more. As I finally had the time I decided to replace them. First, I traced the decals and scanned them into the computer. Then matched the colours with sign vinyl and cut new ones. Cleaned off the old and taped the new ones in place

first the gray to match the stripe...

Although I wanted to keep the classic stock look, I wanted to update it a little...

What is a decal replacement without matching HIN numbers? So, I radically modified an existing font to match the MC logo...

Tracing and digitizing the Prostar 205 logo was an adventure, but now it's all new.

I'll be finishing the stern decals tonight. It sure makes the boat look new!

Thanks! Avery High Performance A9. Less expensive than the 3M and just as good, IMO.

Thanks! It's my own business so it's all side work. It might be impractical for you as I'm in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I see there's a few of us Letterheads on the board. Farmer Ted and 87MC Dave.

I'm still trying to find my way in the decal industry, getting close to retiring from the Air Force and decals/graphics are something I seem to have a knack for, really chomping at the bit to get a Roland VP-540 but can't seem to find an extra $20 grand laying around........

How do you recreate fonts by hand?

You must have nerves of steel!

I've got a book with over 700 fonts and I lay them out on butcher paper for multiples by eye, to use and to keep for my records as patterns, Sharpie the outline, run the outline with a pattern makers wheel, place/tape pattern on surface, pounce with either baby powder or red chalk dust bag or lay out for single with a water soluable chinamarker, then letter with a brush. There is no feeling in the world like seeing all that work that has come out of the end of a brush.

For the amount of digital printing I do, I order it from a specialist. It's so affordable now it's not worth buying the machine. I just send them the jpegs to size.

A Gerber Edge would sure be handy, tho'.

Ouch!:D

I just finished the garage and was cutting shelves. The boat's clean because it had the cover on it. Once the snow melts, I'll pull it out and wash it ...just for you!;)

In the mean time, I'm thinking of peeling off that stick on rubber and going with aluminum tread plate.

No, I don't have a website.
I got into computers only a couple years ago, that's the reason I'm not into vinyl production and at nearly 61 y/o, I don't see the need at my age as I stay busy enough as it is.

I was gonna make a new post for this but maybe one of ya'll can help me. After all this sticker talk I just noticed the side of my boat does not have any Mastercraft stickers!! Yikes! The common lake person might think I am a Nautique or a Bu and we dont want that. So with that said is there anyone out there that can recreate the originals for me or know where I can get some? Boat is White with the baby blue. The Prostar 190 stickers are there but need replacement as well, and I think the transom one is there, or that might be Gel coat, not sure. Any help appreciated.

This thread is a good start, http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=4848, if in fact you have a 1988 as per your profile.

most of them are this size that i have seen and measured. some have drop shadow or a line knockout thru them.

Should be right - do you have the decal the stern as well? or the what you need for the rear hull sides?

Mine do have the drop shadow and line knockout thru them. Just wondering about switching them or finding original replacements.

^if you just need the mastercraft shoot me your email and what color/size you want. I have the graphics and can modify them however you want them. After that you can take them to any sign shop. Mine cost about 70 bucks for both sides but were considerably larger and had some extras.

***do not have the factory shadowing but could replicate it pretty close***

Art work at this link...you can get spot color vinyl or process color vinyl. artwork at this link (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/o91j4vsfromgu2x/r0N1CR5VtR) make sure whoever you get them from get the color you want.

cut pre-colored vinyl makes some nice decals. Process color decals should be laminated and be printed on a quality vinyl like 3M, Avery, or Oracal - and eco-solvent will give you a richer color than a UV and Latex ink will force you into HP media - questionable.
