The river we live on has fluctuating water level on a regular basis... just wondering if anyone has made their regular boat lift into a floating lift ....my dock right now is an old pontoon and it just seems like you would be able to make a lift float attached to 2 pontoon platforms... its cold here in ohio and nothing better to do other than think about how to make the summer better..

My late Uncle had a floating lift system in his boat garage. It had what amounted to two pontoons - one on each side of the boat. They were fastened together with a metal frame which mounted the bunks. He would motor in, tie off with chain (equipped with springs) which centered the boat.

Then push a button, and the boat slowly lifted out of the water. It stopped when the pontoons came to the surface. It had a small compressor which put air into the pontoons and forced the water out of the bottom. He put a large valve on to let the air out faster than the stock setup - the think went down like a rock if you wanted it to.
