I have searched through the PCMsvcmanual with no luck. I am restoring a 1982 MC and the previous owner did some very interesting things with the wiring. Any idea where I can get the original wiring diagram for this model? Thanks!

In the last 6 months someone has posted in a thread the wiring diagrams for both PCM and Indmar IIRC, it may be here in the archives link, the last page is the latest, http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/archive/index.php/f-23.html

If this does not work let me know...I did have one at home but I will have to dig it up....

I think this is what you need, http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showpost.php?p=377327&postcount=8 (http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showpost.php?p=377327&postcount=8) and this is where I found it doing a advanced search under the word "Diagram", http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/search.php?searchid=994511 , where there may be more threads on what your asking for.

Here is a diagram for the 83.5 and newer PCM's. Your boat likely had an ammeter (instead of the voltmeter) and an external regulator for the alt. Everything else should be the same.

Wouldn't happen to have an 88 PS190 Indmar diagram would ya?

I'd say that diagram is wrong. The ballast resistor should be bypassed when the starter is turning so the coil gets full voltage to assist starting. Without doing this its likely to get only 6 volts or so and a very weak spark.

Looks like it is bypassed for EI.

The diagram is correct. Indmar used the 4th post on the solenoid to bypass the resistor when cranking. PCM did not.

I dont have a diagram for an Indmar, but that is the only difference that I know of. There may be others, especially when it comes to wire colors, etc. I would guess that the majority of the diagram is the same, though.

Nope, not at all. I know where there are dash wiring diagrams, but not for a MC :D

I think I have what you need at home.
There was a very good generic diagram on website called skiboathelp.com (which is gone now), that matched my 82 almnost perfectly. Somewhere on my home computer I saved it, now if I can only find it.

I also have a very good photo of the back of the upper dash I took before I disassembeled it.

I will check when I get home tonight.

Ahhh. Any idea why PCM chose not to bypass the ballast resistor?

When I rewired my 84 S&S I fitted a PGM starter which did away with the solenoid so I used a relay to bypass my ballast resistor. I assumed the wiring botched by the previous owner explained why the ballast resistor wasn't bypassed so I chose to bypass it myself.

I noticed this on a friends SN a few years ago. It's an 81 and I was trouble shooting some hard starting. Much to my surprise when I found no bypass for the ballast resistor! But, it seemed to start OK for 25 years without it! I added a little custom wiring from the starter relay up to the coil and she starts better now than I could ever remember...

That would be perfect if you can find it. I have the diagrams for the engine but its the dash panel that has been re-wired and I need to figure out what wire goes where. Thanks,

Any luck? I talked with a dealer today and they have nothing going that far back. Thanks!
