Hi there, So I bought this boat last summer and have no idea its service history so I am doing a bunch to it, including changing out the impeller and the thermostat. The boat has a heater fitted so I was wondering which would be the best thermostat to get 143 degrees or 160 degrees. What are the benefits of each??

In your colder climate and since you have a heater I would use the 160.

My '88 with the 351 didn't like the 160 T stat in the summer. It would heat soak in the hot weather giving me a high temp alarm after every restart. It went down almost immediately but it was annoying. That being said up there in the frozen north and wanting a little extra heat the 160 is probably the way to go. For warm water and air temps I would stick with the 143.

The carbureted PCM Fords take the 143. The EFI engines take the 160. I have the 143 in my carb'd boat and the temperature stays at 160- a 160 stat would have it running closer to 180.

PCM and Indmar's cooling systems are very similar, so I would stick with the 143.

That was my experience with my '88. Operating temp was about 20 degrees over the t stat
