Anyone know why the 08's boats just recently converted to the rubber flaps on the exhaust, with the MC logo glued instead of the nicer looking full crome tips? We just bought ours and they have the cheaper looking rubber flaps covering the tailpipes without the crome pipe

I am not sure which chrome tips you are referring to, but it was demonstrated that some recent chrome tips were not ideal from a design point of view. PM me for more.

What motor do you have? I believe that they took them off all motors larger than the MCX due to restriction issues.

All of the 2008 models we have in stock have the same tips from 2007. The only boat that does not have them is the 2008 X Star. Mastercraft used the flaps so the swimstep would clear when it was folded down.

Yes the crome oval going around the outside is no longer there, the new ones look like the old mastercrafts with a rubber flap covering the hole.

I think he is talking about these.

Seems weird that they would be reverting back to the old style. Have you asked the dealer what the deal is?

I never could figure out what was wrong with the old style (other than they were able to dispense with the mufflers in the bilge). As far as adding to the appearance to the boat, I think they make more sense as an option for those who want to increase the price of their boat to have that sort of thing.

OH! I read ya! Is that the style on all boats, or just the X-stars?

Sky isnt falling just wondering... that pic doesnt do justice and looks way better than they looked in person, just looked cheaper not as flashy just curious why they would change something to not look as good

The flaps are only on the X Stars. The folding platform would hit the old tips so Mastercraft put the flaps on. This is only on the X Stars.

I like white and that is all I have in there... I just wish the new boat fit in there, like the old one did!

Me, rather have the flap. Hey at least they put a little chrome on the flap. :D I could see it for a cost/warranty issue on their part. No worries.

The new style flaps are coming on all the new boats we have, I'm looking at a 197 with them right now and we have an X-14 and an X-2 in the shop getting prepped with them. My guess is it was a running change in the 2008 model lineup.

If you look close the old style chrome tips hit on almost all the folding platforms, the new flaps have zero issues.

By the way Rob, whats up with not posting any pics yet? Jeremy snapped some of his boat when he was here.

All our (later) '08's have the flaps rergardless of folding or non folding platform. A recall was issued on all 8.1L equipped boats with these tips to be replaced with the flaps, and some bigger exhaust tubing. This was supposedly due to the tips being to restrictive for the bigger engine. I've also heard rumors they were discontinued do to people having problems like TTU's. Cheers

Hey whats up corey? I took some but it was only the back end that I was able to get since the factory cover was still on the front as such you cant see too much. Cant wait to be able to see the whole thing though and take it out. The flaps are not bad just not as blingey. Ill post pics though when we take it home :)

You guys going to have a 40th anniv xstar at the boat show? If so I think well have to come check it out

I hear ya man, those covers are not pretty. By the way CONGRATS on the boat!!!

Our 40th won't finish production in time for the show so the standard X-Star will have to fill that slot. You guys should come down for the show anyhow, we're totally revamping our booth and it should be pretty cool. Let's just say there are some BIG changes going on plus we'll have 12 boats on display
