View Full Version : TriStar Re-prop

My local dealer is selling me an '89 TriStar 190. The prop needs replacing. What prop should I ask for? I've seen strong recommendations for ACME on this forum. 3 or 4 blade? Diameter and pitch? Pls provide model number if possible.
I'll be using the boat for free skiing at 15 off and 28-30 mph, plus some rec wakeboarding with a pylon extension.
Thanks for yr help, PW

What motor and trans does the boat have? Do you know the size of the propeller currently on the boat? Have you run the boat with the current propeller? If you have run the boat, do you recall the max RPM the propeller turned? Will you be adding any ballast for wakeboarding?

I got a great deal on a new 4 blade OJ from Jim@BAWS about a year ago for my '88 tristar 190 w/ slot. Jim also has a special right now in the marketplace on refurbished props. Check it out.

I have a three blade OJ 13x13 LH (1" shaft) on my Tristar. I really have no issues with it. It pulls well regardless of what's back there, and I top out around 44 mph. I also have a 4 blade that came wwith the boat, I just never put it on to see the difference.

Put a deposit down at the end of the season. Will drive/ski it in the spring and I have it in writing that purchase is contingent on my liking the boat. Also in writing is prop replacement (it's dinged up) which will happen before I test drive boat.
I just checked w/dealer: it is a 351 MC engine and 1:1 tranny.
Here is all the rest of the info I know: http://www.skierspier.com/pre_owned_detail.asp?sid=0829281X1K7K2008J2I55I29J PMQ2900R0&veh=671289
Won't know if I'm adding ballast until I start wakeboarding behind it. I saw a really sweet post on wakeworld from a guy who did an amazing ballast install: http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65921/86896.html
Don't know if I want to go this far, but nice to know it can be done.

I have an 88 TriStar 190 - 351 with the 1:1 transmission. I put the ACME 541 3 blade NC prop on it. It is excellent - better out of the hole and faster on the top end - would highly recommend.
Congrats on the boat - we have enjoyed ours for the last 6 summers.

For the 1:1 trans I would suggest either our 13 X 11.5 LC 1" XMP 3-blade part #310 or 12.5 X 12 LC 1" XMP 4-blade part #404.
