I have Windows Movie Maker which came with Vista and I would like to do a little bit of simple video editing. Problem is my camera creates the video in Quicktime which WMM does not support. It says I need a codec installed. What the h3ll is a codec and where do I get the one for Quicktime?

So what do I need to do to get this to work? I don't want to buy a new program. Is it possible to do? Help me out here.

Likely your camera gets its video in .mov format (Quicktime). I don't know of any free plugins. The way I would do it is download Quicktime for free and upgrade it to Quicktime Pro for $29. That would allow capturing from the camera to your hard drive and you could export from Quicktime to .avi which Windows Movie Maker would recognize.
