View Full Version : MCX or LQ9
I do order of X-STAR by the end of March.
It arrives at Japan at the end of June.
I think MCX or LQ9.
I use X-STAR also in the sea.
As which is good do you think?
Is there a recommended option?
The color is made Fire red flake.
Please give advice to me.
Thank you.

whaaaaaaaaa?
If you will use the boat in salt water, think about getting the salt water version. You can still use it in fresh water, but it will tolerate salt water better.
No "Salt Water Series" X-Star available...yet. Order the closed cooling L-18.
Closed cooling system is put up to MCX by the option.
LQ9 is std.
Is digital thorttle control of MCX a good system?
It is an excellent system, I have been using it since May 2004 with zero failures.
You need to consider how this boat will be used. IF you are going to load it down with pro level ballast and or people then the MCX is clearly not the engine of choice.
The topic of which engine to put in an X-Star has been the subject of many discussion boards with one clear conclusion...the L18 is the engine of choice. The minimal cost difference between it and the LQ9 will be made up for in fuel savings in the first year (due to prop size and engine RPMs).
L18 = 525ft/lbs X 1.52 (trans ratio) = 798ft/lbs (approx) at shaft.
LQ9 = 430ft/lbs X 1.52 (trans ratio) = 654ft/lbs (approx) at shaft.
MCX = 390/ft/lbs X1.52 (trans ratio) = 593ft/lbs (approx) at shaft.
These approximations are based on similar engines that I have seen the dyno sheets for; however, they clearly point out the advantages of the L-18 in heavily ballasted boats. Hope this helps.

looking at those numbers, I would say L-18 too. I have a MCX and it is a great engine however I have a small boat. The LQ9 doesn't give you that much more power and it is alot of money. If you are going to spend the money on a engine upgrade then get then take MYMC advice...L-18. The MCX will not have enough power.
MYMC : Thank you for good information.
You kind of lost me with the last post.
If budget is a concern then take some options off (you can always add them later)...I tell customers all the time the color and engine are the two things I can't change...pick wisely.

I think that he is using and interpretation program....
He has been asking questions over at wb.com. It was pretty confusing at first, and a lot of kids gave him a hard time.....Once we caught on its a little easier to handle...

Andre brings up a good point, does OJ even make a CNC 3 Blade prop?
All I could find is the XMP and that's a 4 blade.....

The only one I've found is for a MC splined shaft, 13x11 or 13x11.5

That’s a good looking prop Doug. Is that the one you use? I was actually considering that one until I found out I wasn’t allowed to use the Acme.
