This is an odd question, but if anyone has any insight I would be grateful:)

I am working on a hobby project involving the tach of my 2001 PS190 with the LTR engine.

On older post style tach's, used with distributor style ignitions, the gray wire connection on the tach is the coil pulses. Is this the same as on the newer boat tachs? specifically a 2001 PS190 tach that runs through the BorgWarner MDC? Is it still just a square wave signal @ 4 pulses per revolution or is there more to it now?

And to make my question more confusing, I noticed that on the Perfect Pass manual, they note that only on the 99-01 LTR engine, you connect to a separate black wire, instead of the usual gray wire of the PP, making me think something is quite different with this year / engine combo. Id test it, but it is winterized and in storage till spring.

Thanks for the help, or at least for reading my mumbling
