It seems to be a natural progression with the weather turning colder but I just wondered how many people own dirt bikes as a side hobby when not sking. I have had them all my life and was wondering how many other peole rode out there. Here are a few pictures of bike I have owned or currently own.

Not lately, but I have a 02 YZF 426 on standby. Not many place to ride in Jax unless you want to make a long ride to one of the local tracks. I can ride track, but perfer the desert (San Dog) or some good technical trail riding.

I'm rusty since the winters are pretty good for wakeboarding until mid Jan.

I mainly ride around in the Georgia woods and do Hare scrambles from time to time. It is more of a hobby than anything. Ezra Lusk was a childhood friend growing up and I always loved them but never rode professionally. I live in Cairo, Ga which is home to Davey Millsap and Ricky Carmichael. There are a lot of supercross tracks around town but I have always been into enduro/desert racing.

I used to ride when I lived in the UP. Nowhere to ride where I currently live unless I want to travel an hour and a half. When I rode I had a Husqvarna CR250. It was a great bike, I almost cried when it was stolen out of the back of my truck.

I have an 04 Honda CRF 230 4 stroke bike. It's a nice bike for trail riding. When I got older I walked away from the constant pounding my body took riding my KTM 250 2 stroke bike. I mostly ride in southern WI but every year it gets harder to find places to ride.

I dabble... my buddies and my girlfriend have all been riding since kids. I grew up on quads/trikes. Last Christmas, I got my first dirt bike. I rode a few times last winter/early spring, but I hope to get out there a bit more this year.

Never had a quad either. I have seen a few ATC 250R three wheeler on Ebay and wanted one for collector reasons. That is a cool collection of bikes Maristar. The closest thing that I have had to nostalgic was a 82 YZ 490. What a pig of a bike. That thing must have weighed 500 lbs. Have you seen any of the original Elsinore bikes that were silver and forest green? That would be a cool one to restore if you could find one. I think you can get a around ten for one in mint condition.

Love my Honda. I have an XR400R 2003. It is a big (tall) bike and I am thinking of downsizing to the newer 250. I mostly ride tight trails and my 400 is big and heavy to be doing trails. It beats the crap out of me after a long day of trail riding.

Boats and motorcycles are funny in that you have to make the time to use them but is always rewarding. That is a clean YZF you got there. Looks like it is ready to get dirty.

True true, I guess the lack of use comes from having no one to ride with here in Jax. In San Diego I had plenty of riding partners. Guess I need to get hooked up with some local riding clubs here in Jacksonville.

One is a F650GS and the other is a R1200GS. They are the BMW enduro version. They have the sidebags. Here is a side view of them. We ride them on mostly back country dirt roads or logging roads. These pictures were taken on a 1500 mile road trip using all the back roads instead of the highway system through Nevada, California, and Oregon.

Just picked up a pair of restored Yamaha IT 175's. Guy tried doing it for a living and then figured out there was not a market for 30 year old dirt bikes. The far one is a 78 with left side drive and exhaust, The near one is a 1980 model. This is the first year that the drive and exhaust was move to the right side like bikes today.

It seems to be a natural progression with the weather turning colder but I just wondered how many people own dirt bikes as a side hobby when not sking. I have had them all my life and was wondering how many other peole rode out there. Here are a few pictures of bike I have owned or currently own.

Yeah, you are a skip away. Go through Dothan all the time. I don't race anymore just play around with all the bikes. To tell you the truth I don't go any where near all the race tracks around me. I am more into hare scrambles and distance racing than breaking my neck.

We go to Windrock and Royal Blue in Tennessee a couple times a year. Strap that EX on the teak platform and bring it to CSM, we can shoot down to Carolina Adventure World for a couple hour ride. It is about an hour south of Lake Wylie.

It's an '02 400EXC - plated and street legal in the state of michigan except for the tires ;)

My third KTM -

It is by far the best. Smooth, nimble and gets mean when it has to...

I am so much less tired on this than I was on a DRZ 400 I had years ago. I have owned a CRF 250 as well but this was always what I ended up riding...... No looking back

Well, Malcolm Smith says the KTM400 is the best dirt bike he's ever owned. That's good enough for me. I'm running a G2 throttle cam on mine to dumb it down to my level. It really softens the initial hit off idle but still lets it rip when you open it up. Makes the power delivery more like a 400 down low. Still not as nimble as a 400 but its a great scoot.

The long stroke 450 on the exc is a torque beast. I rode a DRZ400 too before this and I can't get over the power this thing has. Good stuff:D

In the KTM circles at KTMtalk.com there seems to be an agreement that the '02 KTM 400 was the most liked version. KTM's own Mike Lafferty still rides that year bike depending on the race. For me. I ride a handfull of trial ries and MX tracks per year. I love the fact it's plated so I can ride it to the hardware store and back. You should see the looks people give you when you seat bouce over potholes - LOL

In alberta Canada where we ride, the terrain is very rugged. We rode the japanese MX bikes for years in the woods, buying them stock and putting $1500 worth of mods and gaurds on them to make them woods worthy. The 2008 XC 300 pic above is by far the best bike i have ever owned. It makes me a better rider, and the only items i put on it were barkbusters and skidplate, barley even turned a clicker. Which is good when my X-star requires so much time to keep it running.
Also
Just got back from Italy where I rode on a KTM adventure tour thur the Italian Apennines on a 450XC e-start. very cool, I would suggest that trip fro anyone who likes to travel and ride off road.
I also toured the KTM factory while i was next door in Austria ... smaller than you would think, but interesting nevertheless

Not to harp...... the kid should be wearing pants/long sleeve shirt and better shoes especially when learning. One accident and he may not want to try it again. Also easy to burn skin on muffler.

also sweet 650! I love my 400. I did the Gordon mod's to it and it is everything I need except electric start and street licensed.
