son calls me 4:30 this morning....

"hey, how do you field dress a deer?"

apparently, while out with a group of young people, a lady friend was following him in her car, and hit this guy

Take this with a grain of salt...it's coming from a non deer hunting Texan. I would love too, just grew up with a family full of lake rats! I thought it was illegal to take a deer that you hit on the road?

there was a OHP police report.

she had the option of either donating it to the prison, or keeping it.

I found a wounded deer on the side of the road one year, called local PD, the officer came, killed the deer, took it home.

I don't know Texas, but in most of the states around here road killed deer are fair game, but you are supposed to get a road kill claim tag from the DNR.

Which alot of the times the DNR guy will want a part of that for himself! So its often nice to offer the DNR guy part of the meat.

Really its the only way to get fresh venison out of season.

Some DNR websites allow you to file for a road kill claim online now.

So Justin, how did you manage to do that?

I can be a pretty aggressive driver but how did you manage to roll the car?

No wonder we have so many Chicken Stews here in NC in the fall! They say Possum tastes a lot like chicken and when they come out on the asphalt roads at night to get warm from the heat in the road, WHAM-O, it's time to Party-O! :D

My biggest fear from deer is what if you hit one while riding. In a car, yes they are dangerous, but what about on a motorcycle? Scares the crap out of me.

Was over at our local BMW bike dealer when a guy's R 1200 GS was dropped off after creaming one on I-80 near coralville IA.

Scary stuff.

See....... hunters have it all wrong... What they need is a bigger bullet with wheels that travels much slower. Then the hunters won't have to "hunt" for a thing.. The deer will find them:rolleyes:
