any place that does vehicle wraps should be able to do boat wraps just make sure it's laminated and expect at least $100 per linear foot 19 foot boat = $1900 if not more

what's the life expentancy?

from the literature I've read, on a car you can expect up to 3 years. My guess is a boat would last longer if it's kept under cover and out of the elements.

wow, didn't think it would be that good....
I guess if it develops a tear, it could probably patched or repaired.

does it actually adhere to the vehicle..... like theprotective coating applied to factory plexiglass panels or is it just surface tension from the shrinking process?

it's my understanding the adhesive is what holds it to the substrate, the heat is to help mold the vinyl to complex curves and help the vinyl form a memory.

I could be wrong though

I was all primed to buy a printer, but I've already got one full time job and the cost of the equipment and the facility to do the work is something I won't do until I can do it full time.

Unless someone here wants to front me $25 grand and a 40 x 60 building to work from......

I am getting my boat wrapped in 1 month. I am working now on trying to find the detailed specs of the boat so I can get it printed. My boat is getting wrapped for free if I let them take it to a boat show to promote. It is a no lose situation. I will let you know how it goes. Anyone have any cool ideas for a 85 S&S. The boat is the blue and cream color. I was thinking of doing something with Blue and a brighter green color. I kinda like the one that is posted in this link but which that it had some stars somewhere on it. Anyone want to design something for me within the next 4 days? LOL let me know

From what I understand the wraps are offered from the factory but there is no information about it in the Mastercraft brochure. I beleive there are 10 different choices at the moment. I saw a theme similar to Rusty's but had a green undertone. It looked sweet. As for cost what has been posted is in the ballpark.

If I get our '93 from the 'rents I am seriously considering getting a wrap for it to bring the color scheme out of the stone age! With the tower, wrap, and new upholstery the boat would be sweet!!

Rusty's boat is at Bay Area WaterSports as we speak. The factory had us take it to the WRAP company. AWESOME to day the least. It matches his all around Skull theme. That wrap is unique. It can add a real uniqueness to a older boat. It is multicovered vinyl. Even above the RUBRAIL. We are contemplating doing one for a show ourselves. Even us diehard skiers have to get IN THE GROOVE sometimes

I had my current boat wrapped by Re-Boat and they did an unbelievably awesome job!!! No imperfections anywhere on the graphics. After one season of use it still looks brand new and the wrap has a 3 year warranty. Matt Krueger, the owner of Re-Boat, really knows how to produce a quality product. He'll do small graphics all the way up to a full wrap. He even got me custom 20 inch black rims for my trailer, that match my Denali. He can basically pimp your boat to any degree you want. I'd show pictures of my wrap, but it would give away the boat that I own. I don't care to get in a mastercraft is better than **** conversation. I'd go on wakeworld for that. I'm only hanging out on the mastercraft website to find out more about the X-80, which I've been contemplating buying for years. I just can't help but post when I see a familiar topic. Anyhow, if I end out going with an X-80 someday I'll definitely have it wrapped by Re-Boat. http://www.re-boat.com

I met the guy who does them at the Seattle Boat Show this weekend. Nice guy. Very creative (although a tad much for my taste).

I like the idea, but upon looking at them up close, I'd be worried about how long they'd last. One little tap on the dock and you'd have a tear (anyone with vinyl striping knows that). They only last about 2 years and when they start looking like crap they're a biotch to remove.

Some of the application around the rubber was a little rough.

I think there will be a great market for boat wraps, not everyone will want something as flambouyant as these which will fuel a great secondary market

I'm sure getting these through a dealer will make them pretty pricey

wrap = expensive

boat wrap = really expensive

based on normal wear and tear these should last the lifetime of the boat

Reminds me of a nightmare I once had about some kind of kooties I had got on my privates that the doctor couldn't get rid of!
I think it's a neat concept for those who can find one they like and can afford it. One thing about the ones I've seen, is if the boat got scratched or the gelcoat got gouged, you'd never see the damage and that may be a good thing for some owners!

Two comments: Why is there so much 'death' in these graphics? Very disturbing and a shame - in my opinion.

Otherwise - seems like a much more marketable idea would be to make some killer (excuse the pun) graphics that are just as unique and colorful, but only for the side or rear quarter of the boat like MasterCraft does now...maybe give you some options so that you could put some elements in that were unique to each owner...but not wrap the whole boat.

laminated vehicle wraps are supposed to last 4-5 years with proper care

I would assume that the company making these is laminating them so I'd expect just as long of life if not longer

it would depend on the normal wear and tear of the boat, I doubt they'd hold up very well against a dock but neither does the MasterCraft decal on the side

Any adhesive is removed with a solvent that won't damage the original finish underneath the wrap, just like a regular decal.

Hey all,
We did some partial wraps last year for Hyperlite on another boat, with the same wakeskate graphic that you see in the previous posts. Interesting to see the idea taking off!

Scott installed it farther forward so that it could be easily viewed under normal riding conditions. Can't do justice to put one our old Prostar 190, but on the new boats they are lookin hot! And yes they are laminated! You can expect a long life with proper care, taking into consideration the way you drive into the dock and take care of your boats finish.

If you like the wrap you can visit your local MasterCraft dealer. They can help you out with pricing since it depends on the length of your boat and the wrap that you are interested in. There are now over 17 different MasterCraft wraps available. One thing that is really cool is the fact that they are able to tweak the colors so the wrap matches the colors of your boat.

MC wrap will set you back $2500-$4000+, depending on the design changes and coverage. You will have to completely remove all graphics and decals.

How did we go from "should I take all my graphics off" to full boat wraps? Seems as though MC guys don't mind the factory graphics, many others are going with the "naked" look.

If someone already has a boat with factory installed decals and they want to have the wrap graphics applied, the factory graphics have to be removed, or they will show through the wrap as a raised area and look like crap!

I know that. I'm saying people are buying new boats and stripping the decals off, with no intentions of wrapping it. They are going for the "clean" look as some companies are getting a little out of control with their graphics.

No mess at all! Yes, you would have to remove the current graphics, but after a year or so, if you want to go back, just peel the wrap off like the old graphics and go back to the OEM graphics. very slick way to change the apperence of your boat.

After reading through this thread I'm still not 100% clear on the best way to go about getting a wrap.

What is the recommended way to get one? Dealer? Direct from manufacturer?

Are all the wraps out there available for all pickle fork MCs or are there different ones for an Xstar vs X2?

A big concern is that if i decide to sell the boat and take the wrap off, will there be a slight discoloring from the part that wasn't wrapped since it will have had sun exposure all during that time. Is the full wrap the way to avoid this?

I like the 3/4 octo wrap...

Thanks for any input.

I don't want a wrap for my boat, I want a Snuggie, https://www.getsnuggie.com/flare/next?tag=os|sm|yh|tm&OVRAW=Snuggie&OVKEY=snuggie&OVMTC=standard&OVADID=19250710021&OVKWID=179665130521 it's suppose to get cold with freezing rain Friday and this weekend!:D

The Snuggie may seem like a great idea if your boat is going to sit on the sofa, but if you watch the commercial, one of the uses the show is sitting at a bonfire. Seems like a great idea until you realize that the back side is open to the cold air and Snuggie is creating a barrier between you and the heat. Not that you are likely to take you MC to a bonfire, but then again, its better company then most people. I always try to keep my back-side covered whenever I can!

I doubt they would change the color. Im not sure but I bet in person it looks more red like the makers mark red top. If not then thats just stupid.

Red would be fine... we don't have makers here in Canada, so I am not familiar with the colors. Thought it was pink...:)

The WW thread says it's one of a kind and not for sale, strictly an advertising showpiece.

(too bad, because it does look sharp. Probably not the best idea to have an alcoholic beverage company on a wakeboard boat though. Although the budweiser prostar did look cool too!) ;)

Greg and Patty at Boatworks are great people! They are working on their showroom and are expanding. It is going to be very very nice once the project is finished. They also have a wonderful pro shop with lots of great buys. Someone should stop in and buy that boat. There will not be many other like that on the water.

Can anyone out there help me with a little photo shop? I am thinking of getting a decal on the side of my boat but can't decide on which way to go, or not at all. Either the standard Mastercraft or the Skulls.. I've seen Skeeler do some good photshop work. Thanks in advance for any help.

Wraps are expensive, look outdated in a year, and hide the true beauty of your boat's gelcoat.

They're not for me obviously. Do whatever blows your dress up.

we used to have a wrap on our tournament fishing boat. the wrap for a 38' fountain is about 6 grand. the guy that made it was Jason at signzoo.com i am not sure if these guys make them for our type boats but i dont see why not. our experience with them was Awesome. the one they designed for us didnt look old after a year at all.

Kingsley X-1
01-24-2010, 01:26 AM
alot of the other guys on the pro circuit with other brand wraps had problems with them blowing off above 60 mph but none of the signzoo wraps ever did. we had ours in 5 - 7' seas numerous times and the boat would run 78mph in smooth water with trip 300hp Verados. 73 to 74 mph with trip 275 Verados...never once a problem.

Absoluckingfutely, Cheetos, Hawaiian Punch, bacon-n-egg sammages and mater sammages if you like, they never stopped us from partaking!
We may not have skulls and such on our boat, but it's been known to have it's share of chicken bones and burger wrappers strewn around till the meals over and it's time to clean up the motor cover and back seat.

Oooops, where'd the bacon go?

If the fish hang out with Cheech and Chong long enough, they might eat anything they can get their fins on.

I am thinking of just updating the look by putting on some late year sticker-graphics. I'm having trouble finding them though if anybody has some advice? A lot cheaper to be sure! I think you can update your boat in this way for a couple hundered bucks.

There are some tight wraps out there... my boat would be hard to do anything but a full wrap on, but I wouldn't rule out getting one somewhere down the road. Do a search for wraps on this site, there have been some great ones posted.

A dealer might be able to supply you with newer model year graphics. You can design something on your own and a sign shop can create any size graphics for you.

If you take the $4500 your going to spend on a wrap, and the money you could sell your boat for why not just move up a few years and get a new color scheme? At least then you aren't just "loosing" that money.

When you go to sell the boat with that wrap, not many people will pay "extra" because it is wrapped. Where if you had a few years newer model you would be able to get a bit of that money back if you ever sold.

Especially since the 205V/X-2/X-1 hull has remained unchanged for so many years, shouldn't be too hard to get a deal on one :)

Just my opinion.........
