Everything went will all year, until last time in water. When shifted into reverse nothing happened. Forward works fine. Tansmission was rebuilt 3 years ago. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Don

When you put it in reverse, does the engine just rev up like its slipping? The transmission is basically hydrostatic, so the only difference between forward and reverse is a valve changing direction and a seperate clutch pack. If it works in forward, you probably have good hydraulic pump pressure. Minimally, I would look at the fluid level, but its likely to be ok or you would have issues in forward too. Any idea why it was rebuilt previously? There are are a number of things that could cause the issue from something simple like the valve is not changing direction because of a shift cable adjustment to a bad clutch or issues with the planetary gears for reverse.

Start with the simple stuff. Check the shifter cable to be sure it is actually moving the lever the full throw. Check the fluid level. Does temperture make any difference. ie does it work when the boat is cold.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply. Was rebuilted due to bad seal. Works great in forward, just nothing in reverse.

You have either lost a CLUTCH pack, which is more than likely what you lost or maybe a DAMPNER plate. The dampner plate takes the shock when you put the boat in gear. It is located and bolted to the flywheel in the bell housing

If it work fine in forward and it was such a quick working to not working situation could it possibly be an issuw with the Morse control? With the engine cover open and the boat off shift into forward and then reverse and check to see that the lever on thr transmission is moving into the reverse position.
