I bought mine from my MC dealer with MasterCraft-logo gauge for about that price a couple of years ago. I think most here would recommend you contact Skier to Skier (http://skiertoskier.com/)and get their price - reportedly a great place to buy.

How hard is it to install?

In a 2003 and later boat, it's very easy - basically just plug and play. The hardest part was getting to the backside of the dash to remove the speedo and replace with the PP gauge. In boats without a paddlewheel, you'd have the added step of drilling a 2 inch hole in the hull to install the paddlewheel, and it wouldn't be a plug-and-play wiring harness, but still a pretty easy job once you get up the nerve to actually take hole-saw to the hull.

Mine was $1020 at skier to skier last year. I installed on a 2000 Prostar including drilling holes with no previous experience or much mechanical ability.

I highly recommend a call to Mike at MC Charlotte. Without mentioning it here, his price was extremely competitive with the the most often mentioned source for perfect pass. His customer service is superb, a fact with which many here are no doubt familiar.
